It's started off well. I love the way they draw all the other characters in to it and you know they are all involved in the murder in some shape or form.

Yes, good first episode, I thought, though they again got a bit lucky with the helpful "clues" enabling identification. (How many people wear a traceable watch?)

Recorded this to watch advert-free later, but Death in Paradise sent me to sleep so will watch tonight! Glad to hear it's up to the standard of the first series.

I remember the first series of Unforgotten went out at the same time as River, on the BBC, both featuring Nicola Walker. I enjoyed both series at the time, and episode 1 of the second series of Unforgotten seems promising, so I'll keep watching. Interesting that the widow of the dead man is also a police officer.

Impulse murders are gonna get harder and harder to pull off, especially once driverless cars are the norm and everyone can be placed in exact locations all the time.

Great start to the series, did wonder why she went to see the young mobile phone expert, surely they've got experts in house for that but it added another character.

Yes I thought that was odd. Did she think he would do it quickly whereas they would be at the back of the Tech Support queue?

I love the painstaking, patient, unshowy police work that goes into this. Cassie is a great boss and her relationship with Sunny is a joy. I'm less keen on the main suspects so far. I like Mark Bonnar but I'm not convinced by Colin. A barrister would surely not allow himself to be blackmailed so easily – I suppose we are meant to assume he is burdened by whatever dark events in his past that are going to be revealed by the investigation, and so more vulnerable and less likely to call Tyler's bluff. But that would affect every aspect of his life.
There's clearly more to come out with Marion too, why she is so volatile and how she and her husband can afford to live where they do. I couldn't see why he would shop her about the phone calls, but who else could have done, unless he's been talking to Elise?
Wouldn't Sara have gone through disclosure, or whatever it's called these days, before being allowed to teach? How did she manage to keep her convictions quiet? She has married since then but would surely have had to give her maiden name.
At the moment I think Wendy Craig is the murderer, simply because she was introduced and then forgotten about this week, and I'm wondering if she may be the abusive teacher. There's also David's 'best friend' whom we haven't met yet but who gave important information to the police over the phone which they are following up.
Good stuff, I'm enjoying it and looking forward to seeing how all the threads interweave and come together.

Yes, I am enjoying it too. As you say, the way the police are working is a refreshing change. Was Sara ever convicted of being a prostitute? She only did it for a yr. It is quite easy to "lose" a yr off your CV as "travelling" or whatever. Also, there were fewer background checks in the 90s. I understand the child abuse angle is topical, but back in 1990 victims tended to be dismissed. This was all before public consciousness was raised about it. Of course, it happened, but teachers/clergy/DJs/Scout masters/members of HM government got away with it. There was no need to murder a complainant (though that could have happened by accident.) Given the time-frame, any abuser would have to be mid-70s or older now, so, Wendy Craig aside ( ), maybe we have not met this person yet in the story-line.

I'll have to check back on my recording, but I thought the conviction was how they found Sara under her maiden name, as she'd been arrested with Samira, the woman they visited who had remained friendly with her for a couple of years after she quit?
I'll be a bit put out if the child abuser turns out to be someone who hasn't been introduced two episodes in to a six-episode show. But we don't know for sure yet that there actually was any child abuse, do we? We're being led to think David was abused and was on the point of confronting his abuser when he was murdered, but as far as I recall the evidence for this is the phone call from his friend, who hasn't appeared yet.

It was a blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearance as the mother of nurse Marion and wealthy sister Elise, at Mum's 80th birthday party when naughty Marion blew out the candles (actually I sympathised with Elise's annoyance there – you don't blow out someone else's candles!). Mum barely spoke and given that it was Wendy Craig I feel sure there is more of her to come.
