Perhaps they just wanted us to see how complex these relationships become.
As they were all being charged with concealing a body and failing to register a death, perhaps they all chipped in for the storage!?
After all they all knew the body was in the boot and taken to his flat. Did they all pay for the freezers? Why did nobody come up with a plan to dispose of the body in a better way.
I suspect initially they did but then just left him to it as there was no suggestion any of them maintained contact with him and he simply didn't know what else to do except leave it there.

I assumed Ram was helping Dean with the drugs operation simply for the money. He seemed to have a pretty good life style.

Ram was also corrupt. Remember early on when he bribed the woman who made a sexual harrassment complaint against him? He got a lot of complaints in his career and always claimed it was racism. I expect some were but his behaviour can't have been exemplary as there wouldn't have been so many.

Yes, the only thing he didn't do was kill Walsh! A contradictory character, kind and tender towards his wife and loyal to his friends, but a real s*** in other respects. He had a massive chip on his shoulder, but no doubt for good reasons – it can't have been easy for him as a new young copper in the 80s. I wonder why he chose that path – he said his family's ambition was for him to be a doctor or lawyer, and he's clearly bright enough to have done that. It would have been easier. Maybe he always had criminal tendencies and being a police officer gave him opportunities he wouldn't have had otherwise.
I don't know the actor at all, but will look out for him, I thought he did a great job.

There were so many loose ends at the end of this that I'm wondering if the storyline will be continued in the next series. I would be quite happy to see Suranne Jones replacing Nicola Walker but Sunny needs to be promoted and made the senior officer whoever is brought in.

If Suranne Jones is going to play another emotional mess a la Scott & Bailey, she needn't bother. The only things I've enjoyed her performance in were The Secret Of Crickley Hall, Gentleman Jack and her one episode of Doctor Who. Everything else I've seen her in has left me totally cold, because she usually plays somebody I find unlikable.

I always think that cold cases are such a specialist area that you must need someone steady and meticulous to go over everything to find the one starting point that gets things moving again. A bit like doing an audit. Obviously new forensics and technology help.
Yet in TV dramas they're often driven, emotionally charged and a bit frantic.
On that basis I'd like to see someone less dynamic who let's us discover the story.

I don't expect she'll be considered, but how about Carey Mulligan? I quite enjoyed her as a DI in "Collateral" 3 years ago. (Nicola Walker was in that too - but not as a copper, as a gay vicar!).

She'd be great, though she's more of a film actor these days and a two-times Oscar nominee so not sure the show could afford her! I just checked back on Collateral – cracking cast but I don't remember a thing about it. I wonder if she's a bit young to play a DCI – I know TV writers play around with police roles indiscriminately, but Unforgotten seems a bit more realistic than some.
All sorts of names are being suggested – of those I've read about, I'd go for Jill Halfpenny, as someone with gravitas and not quite as much of a household name as others. As far as I know she hasn't played a copper, at least not in recent years.

Do you count EastEnders? She started as a cop in that, IIRC.

Jill would be good. She was in The Drowning recently. She did play the wife of a DI (Shelley Conn) at least in Liar S2!

So she did! I'd blotted that out, it was so awful ...

Anyone able to point me in the direction of the thread for the first Unforgotten? Beloved and I started watching it (again) last night.
