Not another young woman murdered. It's getting a bit much how often they are victimising women in this.

Not that it's much comfort, Miranda, but at least they're not unique in that respect - most murder series seem to prefer female victims.

Ooh I am sensing a short if not non-existent retirement for Thursday. Am in trepidation.

They could do worse than Jack Bannon who plays Sam Thursday. His voice is very similar.

We’ve just watched it and I said to my husband that Sam sounded just like his father! I wonder if that was deliberate or whether the actor does sound like Roger Allam. It wasn’t only a young woman who was murdered, a male photographer was killed too.

I nodded off while watching on Sunday so watched again last night in the gap left by Shetland. I thought they could have made more of the significance of the regiment being disbanded, and the handling of the fascist Lady Whotsit was rather clumsy. Would she really have photos on display of herself and Hitler? Perhaps she would, though in the 1960s I'd have thought there would be no tolerance at all of Nazi supporters. It deflected attention from her stance on immigration and made her look a fool rather than a dangerous influence. The hairdresser incident on the other hand was sadly all too believable.
Like others I'm getting a bit bored of the bonkathon Morse is engaged in, and wonder where this is leading as we know he regarded women quite differently later in life.

It's only been two women. Thursday's niece and the French photographer. Who is about to leave him and break his heart.

We always watch out for the references to other programmes. In this episode Thursday and his wife were introduced as being from the Stuart-Hargreaves school of dancing - Barry and Yvonne Start-Hargreaves gave dancing lessons in 'Hi-de-Hi' and there was a torn poster advertising Maplin's Holiday Camp. There were also references to 'Thunderbirds' - the real name of the model, Jean Creighton-Ward, the surname being that of Lady Penelope, 'Blackadder' in the Battle of Mboto Gorge, and Private Collier - a northerner who was going to Germany as Terry Collier did in 'The Likely Lads' did.
The writer, Russell Lewis, is very clever at putting those thing in, and we're sure we miss a few in each episode..

I missed the Colin Dexter photo this week – wasn't looking out for it. I have it recorded so will check, unless anyone knows?

I haven’t noticed any other CD references since the one in the first episode.

Representing real people, Charity Mudford was obviously Unity Mitford.
