Watched this last night and rather to my surprise, enjoyed it. It wasn't as saccharine as I was expecting, and I thought Ruby's despair in her life and work situation before she left was all too credible. Sadly I suspect that the happy outcome of the couple with the sick baby was rather less credible. Good performances all round and I will tune in again next week. Agree & disagree. Yes, rather to my surprise I enjoyed it, and performances are good. No, it was no less saccharine than I was expecting. But I'm treating it like Death in Paradise - so staying with it. I've just been watching "Ruby" speaking Norwegian in series 2 of "The Acquitted" - is there nothing she can't do?

Yes, I enjoyed it too - sort of Casualty in Paradise, but a pleasant hour spent all in all.

Good to see you back, GM - hope you're well.
Yes, it is like Death in Paradise, with I suppose the same potential to reinvigorate itself from time to time by introducing new leading characters. Now that Apple Tree Yard has finished there's no competition at that time, apart from Homeland which I now record and watch as and when.

I'm fine thanks ghs (touch wood!) - been lying doggo while distracted by family members' stuff (which seems to be on the mend now, touch wood again).
Good Karma Hospital enjoyable again tonight. Unlike with Death in Paradise, no-one's actually going to die I think (maybe the Phyllis Logan character, but probably not this series).
Possible clash next Sunday with 'SS-GB', if I can be bothered with it. I recently binge-watched both series of Amazon's similarly themed 'The Man in the High Castle' so I've had a bit of a belly full of what-if-the-nazis-won.

I didn't see The Man in the High Castle as I don't have Amazon Prime, so am looking forward to SS-GB, though if it doesn't go down the soapy route then it may be a gruelling watch. Back to recording Karma then!

I think I will record this and watch the first one of SS-GB. That's what I'm going to do too. I decided to give this a go without any real expectations of being enthralled by it. Well, I'm certainly not enthralled...too light weight and predictable for that... but it is a pleasant way of winding down and relaxing. Btw: wouldn't it be frowned upon in India for a female doctor to go around visiting patients in those little shorts?

I thought that Vicky, a female in a traditional community would be very much frowned upon for showing all that leg. Maybe that it also appears to be a Western holiday spot has changed attitudes.

Not all of India is the same. It's a very big place and I expect that coastal tourist areas are different to a small rural village in the middle.

Nearly didn't bother to watch this but saw the first ep last night, so glad I did it was good I thought. Just been talking to a friend and asked her if she was watching this as I thought it was the kind of thing she liked. She said, no she had been put off by the trailers so hadn't bothered. I have learned not to take any notice of trailers which often make me feel as though I won't enjoy something that I go on to enjoy very much......that and the constant repitition that makes you tired of a programme before it's even begun. My friend is going to watch TGKH now on my recommendation. TV companies, please note!

Another decent episode highlighting the wicked way organ transplants are done to the poorest in India's society for Western money. Loved the line when he said the beetle was as big as a blackbird. Didn't like the way he swiped it though!

Yes, it was, though the whopping coincidence of the man being run over by the daughter of the only surgeon in the area who could save his leg was harder to swallow.
I'm liking this more than I thought I would. It is very slushy and presumably we're heading for romance between Ruby and the dashing doctor, but it's saved by good performances and the charm of the setting. Neil Morrissey is a bit disappointing in this – I've enjoyed his recent dramatic performances, particularly in Line of Duty where he was chilling, but this is a return to Men Behaving Badly. I suppose he is there to dispense folk wisdom in his role as listening bartender, and provide a bit of R & R for Dr Fonseca.

Ahhh - slush laid on with a trowel, which ITV certainly know how to do.
Real feelgood TV though, and I'm quite glad there'll be another series (which was obvious from the introduction - "...now it's the last in THIS series of The Good Karma Hospital..." - heavy accent on the "THIS").
