I quite enjoy some of the 1940/50/60 films on the Talking Pictures channel. Yes they're mostly B&W but I don't mind that. There are some gems in amongst them, which I'd never even heard of.

I enjoy Tell Me Another . I could not watch it tonight because the picture broke up.

I enjoy Tell Me Another . I could not watch it tonight because the picture broke up. This is a smashing little programme. I don't remember it from first time round in the 70s. It must have been one of those regional programmes. Dick Hills "interviews" contemporary stars about their early years. I say interviews loosely, really he just lets them talk. Diana Dors was excellent last week as were Arthur Askey and Ted Ray. Tonight it is Alfred Marks, Max Wall, Joan Turner, Marjory Proops ....

I agree with you both. They have some excellent little fill-in type programs like that.

Last night Clement Freud was on the programme telling the story of how he hid his platoons' rifles to cover up the fact that he had lost his own. It was a funny tale, very well told as it was his forte, but sadly after the recent unsavoury stories there is now that nasty edge to seeing him in his prime.

I didn't see the CF one. I was watching something else. I'll watch out for the repeat.

With luck, you can see early performances of actors who became stars later. I have seen William Hartnell, Frazer Hines, Michael Craze , Anneke Wills and Jacqueline Hill in films on "Talking Pictures TV" For a fan of "Dr Who" ,that is smashing. If you see Russell Enoch in the cast list ,remember that it is William Russell "Ian Chesterton" .Watching Talking Pictures TV can be like having a Lucky Dip.

I am hoping to watch something on here tonight while the athletics are on BBC1. I hate sport itself but I like to listen to TalkSport to hear the tales behind the sports.

Great to see the "lost " film She Knows You Know starring the wonderful Hylda Baker this morning. What a great comedienne and actress she was.

Some freeviewers can't get Talking Pictures at the moment. Although it doesn't transmit in HD it currently uses a frequency in an HD range, so you need a freeview HD tuner to receive it, and even then not all of the country is covered. However, today's RT points out that from the afternoon of Thursday 30th. November all freeview users will be able to see it (a re-tune may be necessary at lunchtime on 30th. - the channel remains the same, 81). www.arqiva.com/news/press-releases/talking-pictures-tv-moves-to-sd-multiplex-expands-nationwide-uk-viewership/

Didn't know this channel existed. Had a quick look at what they show and I see that on a Sunday at 9pm they are showing The Human Jungle with Herbert Lom. I loved that programme when it was shown on BBC in the mid-60's, pity it clashes with other good stuff on the Beeb and ITV.

There has been some furore of late concerning films and series shown on Talking Pictures.I believe OFFCOM are involved.People are complaining about racist content in some programmes shown saying they should be edited out.I think one complaint refers to a scene in A Family at War. I think we have to remember the show is over 40 year old and was portraying WW2 attitudes and speech.Do we rewrite history and if so where do we stop.

I don't think it's about rewriting history. It's about not offending people now.

Talking Pictures always give a warning before showing films with the proviso it may contain outdated language that people may find offensive.
