No there's no real comparison between Outlander and GOT, in terms of plot. I just meant that there's a lot of nudity, sex and violence. They are both not for the squeamish or prudish.

I have met Sam Heughan! He is a very nice man. It was several years ago before he put on the muscle you see in Outlander! I watched the first series on Amazon Prime and thought it was great. I also read two of the books but got bogged down on the third one and gave up. I liked the Scottish bits {Spoiler} but not the parts in other countries so I gave up! I haven't watched it anymore!

Reminder - it starts tonight at 9.00 pm.
Some people found the first part of the opener slow. Not me - stay with it, as it's needed to establish the heroine Claire Randall and her world, which gets suddenly turned upside down a bit over half way through the episode.

I watched this last night. I was gripped from the start. I didn't find the first half slow at all. I'm looking forward to seeing how it pans out.

Several years ago I used an American forum and was amazed at the number of very long threads about this series as I had never even heard of the author. I have series recorded it so will try to watch it to understand the hype about it over the pond. Main reason for me to watch it is to see the Scottish scenery, lovely weather but of course the rain brings clarity and drama

I missed the start of this but I've picked up on it pretty quickly and it's a cracking series. Although life in mid-18th century Scotland is probably pretty well presented, it does seem to have a somewhat skewed and romanticised view of the Jacobite Rebellion (heroic Scots versus evil English, when it was more like Scots, Irish and French versus Scots and English - at Culloden there were more Scotsmen fighting for the government than for the Jacobites!); however, that's probably inevitable, as that period does tend to be somewhat romanticised anyway (Bonnie Prince Charlie was an arrogant imbecile) without throwing in an American author who, I suspect, wants to equate the Jacobites with the American Revolutionaries. That aside it's gripping and immensley entertaining.

I've watched this from the start - although some eps I've had to watch back to back because I just can't get used to watching anything on More 4. But I watched last week's tonight at 8 and then tonight's live. Wow... I really don't understand why Claire wants to get back to the 20th century! She has the GORGEOUS hunk, Jamie to watch out for her (although he's seems to be a dab hand at chastising her!) - what's to go back for But no, joking aside, I'm learning a lot of Scottish history here (and I hope Bidie approves that it's accurate here). Ie, the history of the clans, the battle for or against the Jacobites, and the battle again the Stuarts. Forgive me if I'm wrong!

I can't answer for Bidie though I should know more of my Scottish history but still enjoying this and look forward to seeing this week's episode tonight, as usual for me nothing much I like being broadcast on a Saturday night. I can now understand why Americans(mostly women) were charmed by Outlander years ago ! Never thought the ordinary Scot would be so rude ! back then.

The local Barbour outlet has a more-or-less full scale photo of Sam 'Jamie' Heughan in its window; apparently he's an 'ambassador' for Barbour. He isn't wearing his kilt (he's wearing trousers, before you filthy lot get too excited! ), but he does have a black labrador which I think is a fair exchange!

So Geillis (sp?) had a smallpox vaccination and came from 1968! I never saw that one coming. I quite enjoy this but the repetitive theme of Claire getting into a pickle and Jamie riding in at the last moment to save her is getting a little bit tedious.

My goodness you get some stomach churning scenes in this don't you? I have just watched last week's episode and had to look away when Randall was having at Jamie in prison. The hand! The nail!

Crivens! Yes, it was grim, wasn't it. Looks like next week's won't be a barrel of laughs, either. Tobias Menzies is terrific in such an evil role, and a complete contrast to his portrayal of Frank.
