I think not baking a rye bread was the answer. The task was to make one and Manon didn't do that because she decided there wasn't enough time. That is not the point of the competition, the test was can you make a decent rye bread in the time allowed and everyone else tried to do that. Added to that she used the wrong butter and made pain au chocolat which didn't work. She also made a sweet sandwich - not a deal breaker but on the wrong bread.
I think Rahul would have gone if she had made a half decent rye bread.

I agree with Beverley. By this stage, you expect the result to be close-ish and they start to take earlier performances into account, so Rahul escaped the axe because nearly everything he does, even when he’s never done it before, is pretty damn good.
Some of the errors were in technique (overcooking or under proving) and some ignorance re technique (Ruby’s little doughnuts, but the final result was fine and edible).
The worst errors were In the Danish open sandwich. Briony’s was overambitious - there is no need to do a two tone loaf, which won’t work because the 2nd prove and the baking times are different. She would have done better just to combine the flours. The result was awful and more suited to a teenagers “doorstep” than a lovely little Scandi lunch treat. Manon - well, what can I say? She just did her own thing and ignored the brief. She’s done that before and she isn’t a team player. A French country loaf and a croissant pastry play no part in Danish week. She should have gone weeks ago when she left baking paper and acetate on her cakes and pies in case they fell apart.
I’m no baker but a simple rye bread isn’t that hard to make - it should be a smallish flattish loaf, dense enough to slice thinly, firm enough to hold a slice with a hand and allowing the lovely toppings to tempt you in.

I learned early to adhere to a brief (in an exam setting, anyway, if not life in general).
Late 60s - mock A level in C19 European History:
Teacher: “Well, you wrote a fabulous essay all about Louis Napoleon. It would have got a high mark. Well done! Unfortunately, the question was about Louis Phillipe, so you scored zero”
Well, fair play to her and more fool me, I say! In this case, it was a mistake on my part rather than deliberate.
The moral is the same.
Don’t **** with the brief!

I thought it would be Rahul. I'm losing patience with his channeling his inner Ruby Tandoe. But I must admit , I was pleased to see Manon go.When challenged by Paul, she said"I like them plain" and I thought, ooh, points away there. And there was a lot of eyelash fluttering.

To be honest, Rahul should have gone just for not knowing who Luke Skywalker is! 😮

I think Noel let that go by with remarkably little comment...
Manon failed in all the tasks one way or another so I think she was correct to go. Rahul had a bad week, but at least he was attempting to make Danish items. Deciding to go with what you know, ie French baking was not the idea.
(I must be amazingly dim but it is only after this programme that I realised lovely Briony has a mis formed hand! She is such a stunning contestant it does not hold her back in any way!)

It was clearly visible in the very first epsode and my immediate thought was that you would never know by the way she was handling everything. Didn't seem to handicap her at all and so nice that no attention has been drawn to or special allowances made for it in the show. I'm sure she likes it that way.
She's never know having two "normal" hands, so it's normal for her.

Could be she gets a little help to carry heavier items to the table if necessary but as you say, no special mention has been made of it which is as it should be.
Sandi was very sweet with Kim Joy when Paul was harsh on her showstopper. Ok taste is the main thing but her decoration skills are incredible.

She is fantastic at piping. Very delicate and artistic.

I've grown very fond of Kim Joy. She startled me a bit in the first episode, but I've really warmed to her, and she is extremely talented, especially with her decorating skills.

I think Ruby deserved Star Baker. Her rye bread was the best and I think she edged Bryony on the Showstopper.
Rahul failed, but he did it in an honest attempt to fulfill the theme. Manon ignored the theme, and even beyond that, put no effort into filling her pastries with interesting flavours. She deserved to go.

How wonderful was the screaming that greeted Ruby's "reveal" over the phone to her family that she was star baker!!!!

I rather agree with you but a friend I saw yesterday was livid about it! I went off Manon when she left the acetate on her cake so it still looked good whilst everyone else removed it and had a nightmare.
