I see him more as Rajesh. I don't think he's girly enough to be Rajesh.

Am I the only one thinking....who put the salt in the showstoppers.
Pleased for Ruby, keeping calm when others lose it, deserved star baker.....Kim creative again, with the bunny’s and nuns, but I’m not sure she’ll survive the final...Rahul survived another wobbly week....and it just wasn’t Briony’s week.

Sorry to see Briony go. What on Earth happened with the salt/sugar thing? I think perhaps she did too much at the end. If her showstopper hadn't gone so wrong I think Rahul would have been in serious trouble.

I must admit, I thought the 'sugar' she used looked a little too fine!
Gordon or Jamie would be mortified ... what happened to tasting as you go!

I think they are rushing so much that they are just forgetting to taste. Testing whether it's sugar or not is a good habit to get into.

Everyone does the salt/sugar mix up at some stage in their baking career.....

Sorry to see her go as she was my favourite but it wasn't her day. Mind you I thought a lot of the patisserie looked pretty appalling. Haven't previous series had more polished offerings?
Ruby certainly seems to be doing a lot better than at the beginning of the series.

I think it is the timescale that does them in. Batch baking at this level needs precision timing. 10 minutes longer in the oven than predicted can knock everything off. I wasn't overly impressed with anyone's save the fact that they did sound like they might taste lovely. Having worked in a patisserie I have to say that they would never expect anyone to make all of that in the time allowed. Each person would be doing a different pastry and sometimes another person would be doing the decorating. We used to make the pastry the night before and put it in the fridge and often had the dry mixes ready to go as well, plus we weren't doing it all in one domestic oven. I think they should let them use the empty ovens in the kitchen once others have left when they expect this level of precision.
I know, I know it's a fun competition but I am sure all of the bakers can make things so much better and maybe all it would take is to give them two ovens.

Asking for 3x12 “shop window” standard items was pretty unfair of the judges, but all the contestants made life harder by making everything too big. Why? Even the blueberries and the raspberries looked gigantic. They did the same with the open sandwiches. Better to go with canapé sized portions, especially eclairs - 2-3 bites is more than enough and you can get 2 or 3 different items on one plate, which is often what the French and the Italians do in the sit-down patisseries.
Bryony, maybe hoping for Brownie points, shot herself in the foot with her authentic puff pastry. This was not even mentioned at judging because she produced raw Mille feuilles. And you could tell her mirror glaze was going to be like a silicone mat when she put a massive amount of gelatine into the chocolate.....
I look forward to the final because they’re all a bit flaky ( no pun intended)......so anything could happen.

I keep meaning to ask whether they have to bring in all their own “kit” or whether they have to use stuff provided, e.g. piping sets, cutters.
I notice that, to avoid product placement, everything is decanted into containers, which you don’t do much in your own house and I’m sure this is what leads to people mixing up their ingredients.

There must be a cupboard of standard ingredients because they sometimes scrap a cake or pastry and start again and nobody ever says "Just popping out to the shops, so there must be stacks of stuff they can use, but maybe they bring in their own flavourings and specific tins and utensils. It would be hard to discover something you needed wasn't there.

Just read that they tackle the technical challenge away from the tent for the final:
Doughnuts and showstoppers in the tent.

For those of us who watch Extra Slice, it's on tonight at 8pm instead of tomorrow.
