Not long now (5th August).
Are we excited? There has been an even more pessimistic lead up to this Olympics I feel, what with the Zika virus as well as the usual worries about whether everything will be ready in time.
A few pro golfers aren't going, can't say I'm sorry about that. I'm a bit old fashioned and don't like millionaire sports people at the Olympics. I know there aren't many amateurs left in popular spectator sports but I can't make myself comfortable with the top end golfers and tennis players taking part. Do the pro basketball players still compete?
Anyway, what are you looking forward to?

I'm not a horsey person but I do love the Three Day Eventing, the Dressage is fab and then the Show Jumping and trying to get round without any points etc etc.
And I become very interested in Sailing!

I love loads of the stuff before the athletics! Like the archery, you can get really into these things. I used to do a bit of rifle shooting so like all that too. And although I can't swim I do like to watch all the stuff in the pool, especially in HD. The water just looks stunning. And all the equestrian events. The big surprise to me in 2012 was the beach volleyball. I was really sniffy about that being in the Olympics but it was great fun in London, a singalong every night. Rakey Rakey time!!!
I cannot understand why only golfers are pulling out because of the Zika virus. Are you more susceptible on a golf course?

Is the golf just an exhibition sport this time, without proper medals?
Or do the Olympics clash with a major Open?

The archery. I love watching that. My eldest is a GamesMaker in the Archery Miranda! I also will be watching with a keen eye but on the background!! The organisation is a bit lacking. Many are still waiting for their positions. Not fair, as all volunteers have to pay for flights, transport, lodgings and food etc themselves and cannot book their accommodation yet.

Just ahead of the Rio Olympics, more evidence of why athletes from Russia have to go through hoops to prove that they are clean, so that they can compete under the flag of the IOC: www.bbc.co.uk/sport/36823453

Quite shocking really, the sort of behaviour we would not have been surprised by in the 70s but state assisted doping nowadays, shameful.

I saw some archery in 2012 and it was absolutely nail-biting! Who'd have thought?

Did anyone see the Imagine special on how the London opening ceremony was put together? It was interesting and joyous in equal measure.
Looking forward to Rio. I like watching the mixture of sports on offer.

I never bothered much with the Olympics until it came to London, then I was hooked. Now I can't wait for Rio. I especially love the ones where water of any kind is involved...Swimming, Rowing, Sailing etc.
Pleased to hear about the banning of the Russian cheating mob.

And about how some of them are being asked to pay back money gained away from the Olympics.

I'm interested in the skeet shooting and Olympic double trap shooting. I do a bit of clay shooting myself but I'm very much a novice so i'm looking forward to seeing how the experts do it.
