ITV’s four-part drama Innocent will premiere on Monday May 14th at 9pm.
Innocent tells the story of David Collier who, having been convicted of murdering his wife Tara, has served seven years in prison. He’s always protested his innocence and faces the rest of his life behind bars.
With the support of his brother, David appeals the conviction and to his utter astonishment is acquitted on a technicality. Although suspicion still hangs heavy over him, he is free to walk from court and to begin the long road to rebuilding his life and to restore his reputation. But at what cost to him personally and those around him?
The four-parter stars Lee Ingleby as David Collier; while Hermione Norris takes on the role of Alice, Tara’s sister who has been raising Matt’s children while he has been in prison. Other cast members include Daniel Ryan (Mount Pleasant), Angel Coulby (The Tunnel), Nigel Lindsay (Victoria), Elliott Cowan (Da Vinci’s Demons) and Adrian Rowlins (Dickensian).

I'll be giving it a go. I notice it's showing over 4 consecutive nights next week. Interestingly, Angel Coulby is playing a Detective Inspector - not her usual sort of role. Also interestingly, although a British production commissioned by ITV the series has already been shown in some countries.

I was debating whether to watch/record this series, so I've set it to series-link now.

One of my favourite actors - Lee Ingleby - stars in this, so I'll be watching.

We watched him in George Gently and enjoyed his character in that. We shall be watching this.

A good start. I don't rate Lee Ingleby highly in 'The A Word' but I'm finding him much better in this. Angel Coulby's DI works for me too - she's reasonably normal with some warmth, like Carey Mulligan recently in 'Collateral', a nice change from some of the ice-cold and/or highly damaged female detectives we've seen lately. Looking forward to the next episode.

A nicely developing story with a well-known cast....BUT....yet another drama that I have to use the sub-titles for, otherwise I can't follow some of the dialogue; there seem to be a lot of whispered, hurried conversations, especially between the sister and her husband. It may be naturalistic but it makes it hard to follow. Apart from that the sound quality in general seems poor to me, having recorded the first episode without sub-titles. Nevertheless, as I said, it's a good story I think. {SPOILER:Click to Show}Because he seems the most likeable and reasonable character I'm going for the sister's husband as the murderer! Maybe he knew money for more IVF had been refused and he was angry?

We really enjoyed but I’m glad it’s not just me that found it hard to hear, even with the sound bar at maximum.

Joined this series for part 2 and it is excellent stuff.
Looking for a twist, I am considering the brother of the original accused, the accused himself having actually done it, and one of the children.
I know - out there - but the cause of death was a head injury. Which can occur in an accident - which is then covered up.....

Working on the Broadchurch principle, I am backing Rob the husband of possibly David's brother who ran the campaign out of guilt. So neither of those then.
How come Tara had so much money she could lend her sister £20k. What did she and David do?

Yes, I wondered that too. I am pretty sure there hasn't been even a hint of what either of them did for a living has there?
