I've always been more interested in Valeria's family side of things than the police case each week, which generally had the perp and motive coming out of the blue. They have a remarkably efficient pathology service in Turin - these blood test results come back ever so quickly, no waiting 2 or 3 working days there! I'm sure her mother didn't do it, and went to jail to protect someone. Who? - still remains a mystery. Ref your spoiler - {SPOILER:Click to Show}I thought her real father was his brother - would the blood test result necessarily rule that out? He and Lucia seem close enough to kiss on the lips, and a good few episodes ago the pair were saying that to tell Valeria the whole truth would destroy her.
I still think Valeria's brother killing her "father" is a possibility, as per bidie's suggestion way back up thread. How old would he have been at the time? The blood from the chair cover could match his because it actually was his. Right at the end there seemed to be a connection between Lucia and Valeria's boss/lover, not what you'd expect between a murderess and the man that put her away. There's more to come out in the next series!

Excellent end to the series. The case was interesting although once again there was a surfeit of brunette women. One of whom - Aunt Benadetta - would have done well in a Samantha Cameron Look A Like competition. There seem to be relaxed rules in Italy about interviewing witnesses one on one as well as the treatment of traumatised children. But its a drama, so perhaps we can ignore these things...
But Valeria's family back story made some progress - but left much to be resolved. I wanted Andrea to go to her when she was crying in the final scenes. Nowadays a rapist need not remain anonymous with DNA testing (in some cases a link to a family member is discovered) so Valeria can try and hunt him down that way. Is she the daughter of some sort of crime boss? Was her mother being threatened to keep the pregnancy quiet? It looked like the uncle was also on the trail of the mysterious back-to-the-camera man.
Mama admitted to an affair with her brother in law, but presumably that was years after her son had been born...?
Great series - well done to More4 for buying it. I look forward to further episodes.
Some stunning properties and scenery this week too.

OH JOY! Series 2 starts on Friday March20 on More 4 at 9.00. Only until 10.15 though so not the feature length edit we had last time.
More grey clothing! More women with long brown hair! Excellent news.

Have I missed something? She is back with Andrea? When did that happen?
I am only thirty minutes in but I see we are maintaining the fifty shades of grey colour palette. I could barely make things out at times.

I lost track of where she was on the Giorgio / Andrea front - how did series 1 end?
This Menduni, who seems to be behind her mother's abduction, is a new character I think. Will he turn out to be, or at least connected to, Valeria's real father?

Well so far as I was aware, she had finished with Giorgio. I can't remember if she slept with Andrea, she definitely went to a bedroom with him, but then told him they couldn't be together and he acted like a sulky teenager. (She was going to take that job in Rome wasn't she, to remove herself from all the stress and entanglements, but decided against as Giorgio promised they could investigate la mama's case. He doesn't seem that desperate to investigate it though!)
I didn't know who Menduni was, he must be new.

Ah yes, I remember the job in Rome - which we knew she was never going to take, because there was a second series coming up!

Just watched ep 2, and wow! I was not expecting the ending.
I've always been more interested in Valeria's family background, and this entire episode was about that, so a great one as far as I'm concerned.
Is the mother actually dead by the way? I don't think we've seen any direct evidence of that.

It was good wasnt it? And I could actually see what was going on in 1998.
I agree it hasn't been made clear that la mama is dead. They mentioned disposing of her in an acid bath but there was no sighting of one.

Yet again I am amazed by Italian police procedures. How come bonkers copper Barbara was allowed to stay on the case? (And if I wanted to show my colleague that someone had stabbed me, I wouldn't strip off to my bra!). And how come Valeria was allowed back on the case when she was clearly high as a kite? I am amazed she could even drive.

I didn't think revealing her old wound was the only reason she took her top off... No, neither she nor Valeria should have been allowed anywhere near the case. Rather a pedestrian and somewhat tedious episode I thought. This same case looks to continue next week - is this the first time we've had a 2-parter? I'm now resigned to Valeria's mother definitely being dead. She's not in the cast list for series 2 at all and now I've found out why. The actor playing her (Monica Guerritore) quit the show in a huff after S1 over creative differences. Apparently she wanted to be involved with the writing of her character, and they said no.

I have just seen in the RT that SERIES 3 starts on Friday March 26 on ALL4. So that’s a downgrade from being aired on More4 isn’t it? I assume it is new as they did combine some series before..... but I think for UK viewers series 3 would be new.

Well spotted! Yes, looks like these are new episodes to us. All 12 of them seem to be already available on All4 - described by Walter Presents as series 2, though other platforms e.g. PBS Masterpiece describe the same episodes as season 3.
(The last episode I recorded from More4, 5 Jun 2020, is series 2 episode 12 in imdb and listings, but WP has it as series 1 episode 24.)

I was confused! - this is all wrong.
Last episode I recorded was WP's S2 episode 12. S3 wasn't available when I said but it is now, and they are definitely new episodes. Haven't started watching them yet though.
