Well done Matty. I think Josh perfected the art through the series of keeping it simple and making it brilliant. However, as a show stopper in the final jam sponge wasn't going to hack it. Never mind that you made your own jam - that's expected, but if you don't make the cakes perfectly the decorating has to be out of this world and it just wasn't. It was like I had done it.
Paul said Matty's chocolate sponge was the best he'd tasted in age and Prue had a second piece. His fillings and decorating showed all the techniques he could, buttercream, Italian meringue buttercream, Genoese sponge, just the right amount of flavour and he didn't attempt a decorating feat he couldn't pull off.

I thought Josh’s showstopper looked rather amateurish for a grand final TBH. The cream/icing wasn’t bright enough so the cakes looked muted, and the piped plants were not sophisticated enough. A pity.
