Well, I watched it until halfway through the technical and switched it off. And I won't be watching it again. The BGM was constant. It was even playing during the judging of the first round. I can't stand it so that's it for me.

I watched it, and all I can say is that I would be as good, if not a better, a contestant as some of them and I don't bake because anything cake I've attempt would make a good building brick - at least mine is always cooked RIGHT through. No soggy middles or bottoms for me.

I didn't notice the music, but I did find 13 contestants too many... that problem of course will decrease Seemed to be a cheerful bunch of people, I liked the two young lads

I enjoyed the show although I can't remember many of the bakers! I too liked the two young lads, and also Dan! Some of the offerings were poor but I guess it's the pressure. It's like the Sewing Bee where they say make a dress in three hours. I would only have got it cut out and done a couple of seams in that time, lol.

I liked it. I didn’t want to lose the person who went, but it was a bit inevitable.
I see the innuendo is in full flow from the start. 😀😀
I can understand the criticism about the age range this series. A couple of older faces would have made a better mix.

They also seem to have gone for a lot of 'characters'. It seems to be less and less about the baking and more about how much 'fun' they can force into it. What was all that nonsense at the start?

Thunder and lightning knocked the TV off so I only saw the judging of the Angel Cakes and the birthday cakes. Why go to the bother of telling them it's got to be a 3D decoration on a theme and then tell them that the contest is all about the cake inside the decoration. Does the decorating count or not. Some children would seriously be more interested in the decoration and not bothered at all about the cake. Also some of the flavours seemed a bit adult - coffee and dark chocolate, chocolate lime. Not sure any children at any party I've been too would be that fussed about that. Sometimes the theme is great and other times it's not.
They should have been asked to make a Victoria/chocolate sandwich cake straight up and then be judged on how good their cake was compared to the others and also judged on the decorating theme. How do you compare a brilliant carrot cake to a brilliant chocolate cake other than asking children which they preferred. Maybe that's it, they could add in an independent judging panel made up of the public - willing judges could be drawn in advance. They would be in a separate tent and wouldn't know any of the competitors and their vote could be a bonus vote like a joker and give you a pass through to the next week.

Beverley - a similar idea to the BBC painting series (can’t think of the name) where a public group vote on their favourite picture each week? I quite like that idea.

Exactly and that flavouring choice should have been a consideration when judging a child's birthday cake. What it looked like would be more important to a child and I don't think many would choose, coffee, chocolate orange or carrot cake.

Not a bad start to a programme that's easy and reasonably safe for the whole family to watch. We all know though that the contestants with red pouty lips will get through to the final stages.
