I stopped watching several weeks ago when I forgot it was on one night and realised I hadn't missed it and wasn't bothered about catching up. For me I just think its moment has passed.

I'm still enjoying it. It has to be remembered that the editing is key in such programmes and as such can create friction where there is none. As for the challenges, yes some of themes are weak but if they did the same ones every series we could get articles about how the format is "stale" and needs a re-boot.
I hope we get another Scandi weak for Sandi - that was fun last series.

I’m still enjoying it too. I prefer Sandi and Noel to Mel and Sue. Also I do not fall asleep at all during the program. I was always falling asleep during the BBC version! It was my one guaranteed nap of the week! i do however agree that some of the themes and the technicals have been a bit odd this series

I do love a spiced bun, yum.
But this showstopper is excessive, one of the contestants said he got through 110 eggs practising this at home. This has moved so beyond accessible, how much spare cash would you need to take part in this competition. No wonder they all seem very middle class thus year, yah! I think I might have preferred it when we had jolly home bakers.

The final cake is a complex horror, isn't it? Grilling the layers...eek!

I couldn’t believe it when he said he had used 110 eggs in practice. I just thought what a waste. And so easy to burn the layers. I am in awe of these bakers - I can only make about 2 things in the bakery line..

Not a waste if he made the cake and then it was consumed. A lot of eggs, yes, but how many do restaurants etc go through in a day? I DO know what you mean, but if eaten, I don't think it was a waste as such.
Correct decision with Michael - he was lovely but had gone as far as he could.

Could you afford to get through 110 eggs in a week and all the other ingredients just to practice?

If I was brave enough to take part in this show, I think I would HAVE to!
Henry might have had a deal with a local supplier to help with the cost.

Hopefully all these bakers have a horde of willing eaters for their practice bakes!

110 eggs....to practice....for a baking competition? Unless the results were edible and donated to a charity, I am sorry, but that is immoral in my opinion when there are people who have to use food banks because they can't otherwise afford to eat. If this is what Bake Off has come to I think a sense of perspective has been lost by the competitors and the producers.

I would like to see a showstopper challenge for a tiered decorated celebration cake for under £10.
