I just checked and the one I was thinking of on Netflix is One of Us. Similar plot but different cast. Starred Juliet Stevenson, Adrian Edmondson and Julie Graham. That's the one with the feuding families where they buried the car. So I haven't seen Guilt.Oh I remember that one, where a son and daughter married and the daughter was muredered in London? I think Jon Lynch was in it, as a big bearded father. So I can watch Guilt then!

They don't try and dig a hole to bury the car in do they? That would be a sizable hole! It was!

They don't try and dig a hole to bury the car in do they? That would be a sizable hole! I remember that point was commented on here at the time. Didn't some of the family spend a night during a terrible storm digging the hole with a JCB and pushing the car into it? It was one of those series that started well and got sillier and more far fetched as it went on. The blonde actress who played a shop assistant in Mr Selfridge was in it...Joanna somebody I think.

I don't think Guilt has been shown on BBC Scotland ahead of the network, which is unusual. I'm sure I would have watched it but it didn't start filming until April of this year so I'm assuming it is indeed new. In One of Us which despite the stellar cast was a turkey IMO, I think they pushed the car into a pond, didn't they? Or did they cover it up with tarpaulins and things? Pretty sure they didn't actually dig a hole, though if they did it wouldn't be the daftest thing about the series. Yes, it was Joanna Vanderham who played a care worker who drove very long distances to get to work! Just been checking back to find the original thread which is here: pointsofviewtoo.freeforums.net/thread/412/. It's a fun read! I stand corrected; they did indeed bury the car.

Thank you for finding that: I've just spent an enjoyable 20 minutes reading through it. Didn't we have fun with that series?!
I was wrong about the car being buried on a dark and stormy night. Even more implausably it was done in broad daylight near a road where the press were camped out!

There was a trailer for this yesterday evening which suggested it's a black comedy rather than straight drama. That may be my misperception though, I'll still watch with an open mind!

My epg describes it as a "contemporary thriller with a strong vein of black humour". It's on BBC Scotland this Thursday, 24 Oct 10.00pm - 11.00 pm, then on BBC2 a week on Wednesday: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0009qm4

Mmm. I can't see what's particularly funny about running over and killing an elderly man, but we'll see.

I imagine it's not the running over that is played for laughs but more the interactions between the characters. Black humour is one of the ways that people cope with bad things.

I must confess I do like a bit of black humour.

Mmm. I can't see what's particularly funny about running over and killing an elderly man, but we'll see. I don't know about that. In the right circumstances..... Imagine you were being chased out of Dover, by a mob of angry pitch-fork wielding Brexiteers, and you ran over Nigel Farage, in your Citroen 2CV. That might raise a giggle.

I've watched episode 1 now (I can get BBC Scotland on freesat), and I like it.
Once the first 15 minutes was out of the way, I enjoyed it more and more, and will definitely be continuing. I wouldn't say it's much of a thriller - just a comedy. And not particularly black after the first quarter of an hour.
Anyone outside Scotland - if you can't wait for the BBC2 showing, episode 1 is on iPlayer.

What do we think then? I did laugh at some of the dialogue although I'm not sure how tasteful the subject matter is. Much as I admire Mark Bonner as an actor I did feel that his interpretation of his character is in danger of becoming a pantomime villain and I do wonder how this story is going to be maintained and strung out over three more episodes. I'll keep watching though because it is a bit different.

I enjoyed it. It was different, and a bit daft.

Oh yes, I enjoyed it too. Maybe I didn't make that clear.
