For those who can't wait until Thursday 14th., S2 episode 1 is on BBC Scotland at 10.00pm on Tuesday 12th. Oct., and the whole of S2 will be on iPlayer from that time.

I am going to have to watch the last 15 minutes or so on iPlayer because I fell asleep and when I woke up we were halfway through QI which confused me for a moment! However, I did enjoy what I saw; my falling asleep was no fault of the programme's, just a busy day in the garden.

I fell asleep too! I will rewatch, though I may have to remind myself of what went on in the first series as I'm not sure if it has any bearing on the second, other than explaining why Max was in prison of course. It was a bit confusing that villainous Roy was played by a different actor. Jake has gone to the US with Angie so I don't suppose we will see him again. I couldn't remember whether we had seen the female cop before, but the male cop was in the first series I'm sure.

I've watched all of S2 on iPlayer now, without re-watching S1 or remembering a lot about it. I'd say that I probably should have re-visited S1 first. Being completely familiar with the first series isn't necessary to understand the second, but it would likely make you appreciate it more.
I think it's very good - thoughtfully put together, with plenty of twists and turns and secrets to come out.

I should add perhaps that the S2 subtitles are unusually poor for the BBC, and anyone relying heavily on them could be quite confused in places. Apart from some obvious howlers such as "lease" for "Leith's" and "paupery" for "Popery", there are some simple ones that completely change the meaning of what's said - I noticed "see"/"her"/"we'll" which should have been "say"/"him"/"he'll".

I very much agree about the subtitles!
I have finished this and thought it was good, but not as good as series 1 which I thought was excellent. The plot didn’t seem to gel as well, and I wondered if it was just put together because it had had such a good reception before, and stars a man of the moment in Mark Bonnar, rather than having been conceived as a two series project, IYKWIM.

Series 3 began on BBC2 last night and is on iPlayer. I had to Google the previous series to remind me of what had gone on. Apparently this is the final series. A promising start I thought, although a touch of Jamaica Inn lighting struck again.

I understand that series 3, which is the final series, will draw together characters from series 1 and 2 so thought I'd better remind myself of who they all are. I rewatched series 2 which was familiar to me as I was watching it but I had no recollection of the plot, and even after watching it all again it still isn't all entirely clear! There's a good summary here: www.denofgeek.com/tv/guilt-recap-max-roy-maggie-lynch-kenny-erin-teddy/It summarises the story so far of different groups of characters without giving anything away about series 3.

I've now rewatched series 1 which I should of course have done before series 2, but I thought, correctly as it turned out, that I would remember more of series 1 which is complex but not baffling!
Bill Paterson played Roy Lynch in series 1, though he didn't appear until well into the story and not very much even then, and we only saw him at the payday loans facility which he ran, though Max only learned that late in the day. We saw nothing of his home life and Maggie didn't feature at all in series 1. It's interesting that Roy was beefed up as a character in series 2 when they'd lost Bill and recast him, rather well I think. Bill was perhaps more menacing because we only saw him at work, but it was difficult to imagine him with a home life.
Now I have to rewatch series 3 episode 1 to have a clue what's going on!
