I do think quite a few American accents owe a lot to Irish ones which I suppose isn't surprising given the scale of immigration from Ireland. I often hear people speaking on the radio who take me a while to work out whether their accent is Irish or American.

An excellent series IMHO. It far exceeded my expectations and was brilliantly executed. I watched it early on iplayer because of my stinking cold, and I found the ending very satisfactory and thought it tied off the story rather neatly. What a lovely set of people they all were!

I thought it was strange that Max was told his rights and was taken away by the police, but they didn't actually say why they were arresting him!

Well, Max's Mona Lisa smile at the end suggests he has an idea up his sleeve, though it would be tough luck if the brothers got into another wrangle!

I often hear people speaking on the radio who take me a while to work out whether their accent is Irish or American. That is a very interesting theory and I have to say that when a UK actor/actress is playing a Yank they tend to have excellent accents when playing a character from New York, Boston, Detroit, Chicago. Industrial cities that had huge influxes of Irish immigrants in the 19th century. But they're often fairly unconvincing whentrying to pull off a southern accent. They seem to come off sounding like Benny Hill in a hillbilly sketch.

Funnily enough I met someone the other day who I thought was Canadian, and he's actually from Dublin!

Canadian accents are hard to distinguish as they tend to sound very similar to the north central US accent - aka the "Fargo" accent.
