BBC Oneβs The War Of The Worlds adaptation will premiere on Sunday November 17th at 9pm.
The War Of The Worlds is set in Edwardian England and follows George and his partner Amy as they attempt to defy society and start a life together. It tells their story as they face the escalating terror of an alien invasion, fighting for their lives against an enemy beyond their comprehension.
The three-part drama, which is based on the H.G. Wells classic, stars Eleanor Tomlinson (Poldark), Rafe Spall (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), Robert Carlyle (Once Upon A Time) and Rupert Graves (Sherlock).

Ah! I've been looking forward to this. I hope it's not as bad as the Cruise film.

I watched the original film of this (1953) version. It got an Oscar. It was very good

This was filmed in Liverpool, some of it at Croxteth Hall, which is within a mile of me, so I am looking forward to it.

Just a reminder:
The War of the Worlds Series 1 Episode 1 of 3 Woking, 1905. A Martian capsule lands on Earth. When George and Amy join the curious crowd to examine it, the unleashing terror turns their lives into a nightmare.
BBC One: 17 November 2019 at 21:00 55 minutes
I'll probably wait until it appears online. I wonder if they really mean Series 1, in the expectation that there will be more than one.

Richard Burton's narration is a tough act to follow. But it's shaping up well so far. Interesting that Eleanor Tomlinson has kept her red hair sonce Poldark - she's natural blonde, I believe.

From the publicity I've read they have changed the story considerably.

It is not the original story. It is the same event taken from a different viewpoint. That is why I am so intrigued.

I changed my mind and watched it live and I'm glad I did now. That was brilliant!
Only two things that I found a little bit off. One was all the staring into space. And two was the slightly confusing flash-forwards. If that is their son, then the defeat of the Martians must be for a completely different reason in the original story.

It took me a while to realise the flash-forwards were flash-forwards. I suppose the Martians' demise could have happened years before those were set, just it had taken that long for any recovery and rebuilding to start (though that would be stretching things a bit).

The effects are good, the cast are good - but the flash-forwards suggest the book ending will not be used.
So why call it 'War of the Worlds'? Why not write a whole new drama about an invasion from space?
A lot of it was quite hackneyed, imo. Go back for the maid! Go back for the dog!
And I wish I had not learned in an interview about the 'fake horse' used for some of the getaway scenes. Nothing new - not all actors are skilled horse riders - but in parts it was SO OBVIOUS...
Not sure I will bother with the other episodes.
