Bacon definitely, not sure about the peas. Had a mind of her own didn't she. I wouldn't have liked to have got on her wrong side.

Am enjoying this, but am getting a bit fed up with the soaring celestial music to emphasize how happy V&A are. I expect at least a pair of cupids to appear and flutter over them at any minute.

Another episode without even a sighting of Lord M!! Luckily I got a flyer from the Old Vic for Rufus Sewell in Art from Dec-Feb so have hastily forwarded that to the leader of our theatre group.
On the servant front, obviously they couldn't afford extras to provide a full household, but the minimalism is rather a nonsense IMO. Plus they are all or most a bit rough round the edges which is hardly likely in a ROYAL environment is it?
I Shall be interested to see how they portray Victoria as a mother, especially if we get to the later children. From everything I have read or seen, she was just totally Albert-centric and the children were really of no interest, she hated being pregnant and was pretty unpleasant to some of them.

The ones who did the rough work would most likely be working class and poorly paid but any servant who might be spotted by the Family would be proper.

I suppose, thwarted, Cumberland had no option but to go into the sausage business.
Much talk of 'Princess' Caroline tonight which got me wondering in a round about way what became of the Queen Dowager. It seems she went on to become the capital of South Australia and a pub in Wandsworth, which is a life well lived in my opinion.
I'm learning so much.

The Princess they spoke about was Charlotte (not Caroline) who was the only child of George IV and Caroline of Brunswick. She was the heir to the throne and extremely popular in the country. She was married to Prince Leopold of Saxe-Coburg ( later King of Belgium and the Uncle Leopold we have seen in this series) and....as we were told many times....died, along with her child, in childbirth. If that hadn't happened, Victoria would never have been born, never mind become Queen as the King's elderly brothers were all forced to marry to try and produce a legitimate heir. Victoria's father won the race.

Great end to a series. Wonder if Lord M will return in series two.

Great end to a series. Wonder if Lord M will return in series two. It would be nice if he did as I thought Rufus Sewell's was the outstanding performance in this. It depends when in Victoria's reign they start the new series. We finished last night at the end of 1840 and Melbourne ceased to be PM in 1841. He died in 1848.

Good end to the series, but the 'Downstairs' thread has been left hanging to be resuscitated in the new series. Should have had him open what would turn into the restaurant at The Savoy, and her go with him as Housekeeper of the hotel!

Now I understand Fortunately the excellent 1970s series Prince Regent is at last out on DVD so I can re-familiarise myself with the period!

Is that the one with Peter Egan playing "Prinny"? If so, it was excellent.

We have recorded the whole series ... what's everyone's opinion? .. is it worth watching or will we be bitterly disappointed?
