We have recorded the whole series ... what's everyone's opinion? .. is it worth watching or will we be bitterly disappointed? Worth watching for the Royal part of the story, but the servants' story was not really worth bothering with, it was merely padding.

I enjoyed it but how true to life it was is a moot point!

Is that the one with Peter Egan playing "Prinny"? If so, it was excellent. Yes, out on DVD on 20 Oct at long last.

It is very good. They've occasionally played a bit fast and loose with history, but it's a good cast, and overall well written and acted. The 'below stairs' bits are unnecessary and a bit tedious, but don't seriously detract. I have a German friend who is planning to watch it - I can't wait to find out what she makes of the accents!

I thought it was really enjoyable. If watching a recording, I agree there is not much mileage in the servants' plots so you could afford to FF through them.

Good to watch as a recording, then you can fast forward through the ads, on the whole I enjoyed it. re the German , it is done for us Brits , by Brit Actors, so will sound rubbish to a German, then I would think the German spoken near the Dutch borders would be different than in the Rhineland or over near the Austrian border

The second series will premiere on Sunday August 27th at 9:05pm.
The story picks up six weeks after series one, and sees the Queen now as a working mother, learning to balance her responsibilities as both parent and monarch. However, with Prince Albert still struggling to find a role for himself there is an inevitable power struggle between husband and wife. As well as much drama in Buckingham Palace, the new series will include trips to France and Germany, touch on tragedy in Ireland and war in Afghanistan, and see Victoria and Albert discovering sanctuary in the Isle of Wight.

9:05pm is a bit of a strange one. Not 9pm.

Yes, it's odd - and "Strike: - The Cuckoo's Calling", which clashes with it on BBC1 and which I'll be watching first, also starts at 9:05.
Sunday nights have suddenly gone from nothing back to saturation for me. Victoria on ITV, Strike: on BBC1, Ill behaviour (bit childish but amusing) on BBC2, From Russia to Iran (Levison Wood - I like his programmes) on C4 and Test cricket highlights on C5.

From the trailer it looks like they've picked up on Victoria and Albert's fondness for dressing up as Edward III and Philippa of Hainault, one of English history's other great royal romances.

Series 2 has started as good as ever, lavishly done and thoroughly engrossing.
As with the first series though, I'd rather they hadn't included the "below stairs" elements with Skerrett and the chef etc. By all means show staff going about their duties from time to time, but trying to bring their personal lives into it as though it were a royal version of Downton Abbey doesn't belong and doesn't work in this production, imo.

I can't get over how disgusting it looks below stairs! Very insalubrious. Look at the state of that chef, yuk. I can't believe anyone working in a Royal household would be allowed to dress like that. But wasn't chef FRancatelli a real person who did come back after leaving? I may have misread some publicity perhaps, lol.
I enjoyed it too. I am mainly hoping for Peel to be defeated and the triumphant return of Lord M. I haven't checked the history books to see if that happens but I remain hopeful.
