Oh, it was a lovely, "get-your-hankie-out" last episode. I cried when the cake was produced, with their figures on.
I suppose the last two shows might not be on barges, but boats, and will have someone else being the skipper for them, which is maybe why last night's was billed as The Last.

It did look rather like a swansong, with the whole family gathered together at the end.
I think it really was the last. This week they were actually doing the Oxford canal again while recalling moments from their British and Irish trips, but next week's looks like it will purely be replaying moments from all their foreign ones.

Just been reading that Prue and Tim have given up now. They are being replaced by Giles Brandreth and Sheila Hancock. Tim will be training them up...lets hope he doesn’t show the art of crashing.
I will miss Prue and Tim.

I don't doubt that Giles and Sheila will deliver a great show, but the whole point of Tim and Pru was that they'd being doing it all their adult lives. Canals were in their blood. With anyone else it will just be a travel show. In any case, it's already been done in Celebrity Carry on Barging, which was on Channel 5 a couple of years ago.

And now there's yet another ageing-celebs-on-barges show coming to Channel 5 - Friday 14 Feb 9.00 pm - which I'm unlikely to bother with.

Commissioning editors don't always get it, do they? GCJ's magic was the Tim and Pru-ness of it, not the water. Personally I went off it a bit when they started going overseas, as it was the charm of the two of them doing something they loved and had been doing all their lives that was the appeal. It's not a travelogue nor a celeb vehicle, but a real love story of people and places.

Well, I take back my previous comments. The new 2-part series of GCJ with Sheila and Gyles began last night and was delightful. I'm not a huge fan of Gyles but he does have a lot of charm when he isn't overdoing it, and this was very much in the spirit of Prue and Tim, whom they referred to at the start as their inspiration. An appearance from them was promised but didn't actually happen - perhaps next week. And Sheila is amazing - she's 87 and has the energy of someone half her age.

I watched the first Gyles & Sheila 2-parter, didn't take to it I'm afraid, and decided not to bother with this one.
