I liked the idea of the Battenburgs, because I’ve only ever seen the traditional pink and yellow. But the only one I would have happily eaten was the orange and lemon one, which looked lovely.
Like undertheparapet, I noticed the multiples of flavours. What is that all about? At least make them complementary, not clashing.

Matt's impression of Boris at the start was inspired! And funny!
Welcome back GBBO - usual mix of contestants who are already helping each other.
Some made the Battenberg's over complex - but it was interesting how many said they either did not like the cake of did not like marzipan!
The cake bust challenge was pretty out there. The Darwin cake looked so unappetizing because of its outer grey colour. The Black Panther actor had brilliant details on her dress (red with gold dots) but the face was not good. Freddy was good fun - and kind of worked in his slightly neckless way, but Bowie was a disaster. I had to smirk when Pru kindly said Loui Thereuex and Bill Bryson were recognisable.
The star baker was shrewd with his Chris Hoy tribute. Simple flavours and clever outfit detail.
All in all a great start to the new series.

Can we have the busy challenge every week? I've never laughed so much. I thought the Maria Antoinette was really good. And some of the celebs with clear distinctions you could tell, like Freddie Mercury and Bowie, even though they were brilliant. But Bill Bryson and Louis Theroux I don't think have enough characteristics to do a bust unless you are amazing at sugar craft and David Attenborough looked like he'd eaten Richard Attenborough! I can't wait for Gogglebox tonight!

I wonder how they will manage the social distancing?

No audience by the looks of things - well a very sparse socially distanced one, we didn’t see them for the first half of the program

Extra slice was right. Marie-Antoinette does look like David Cameron...

Thoroughly enjoyed Extra Slice. The unveiling of the cake for the departing contestant was lovely and apart from the considerable distance between Jo and her guests - and a more sparse audience - it was business as usual.

Given the social distancing and sparse audience, I thought it worked very well. There were no awkward pauses that you get when someone is joining via screen and Jo kept things moving along.

Was Tom Allen on it?

He was but I think a little less hectic than usual.
Matt Lucas' piece from filming was great fun. I hope he has had a chance to contribute more.

I never really took to Tom Allen, and there is less of him in this. He has to interview the few people there with a whisk on a 6 foot pole. I think the format works well considering, and there may be more “baking disasters” sent in by email which is always fun!

It's his smugness that I can't stand.
