Did Italy have a goal disallowed?
Not sure about the awarding of the penalty, but the ref seemed pretty clear.
Good match, could go either way. Thinking of 'our' Lugs, cheering her adopted country on in some Italian pub...

Yeah, for offside. But it was tight. I thnk the refs have been surprisingly accurate. Not many decisions overturned, just some they didn't see. Like the very tight offsides. Despite all the stick they get, they are usually right. And I think having the VAR has boosted them rather than put them off. Similar to the cricket and the tennis

I hate this when Italy start falling over - Martin Keown says it’s gamesmanship, I’d call it cheating but they get away with it so often

All of the teams do it. I don't like it either but it's been part of the game for a long time and the Italians have always been cynical. Angels and Devils, just like Brasil.

I know they all do, Italy then Argentina are the most blatant at it, but it was a good game.
I know England are playing tomorrow but someone needs to mute the running commentary that they’ve already reached the final. It is irritating and disrespectful to the opponent.
Oh well I hope it’s a good game anyway

When they fall over they should be treated as race horses - bring on the screens.
And a bolt gun.
They will be on their feet in seconds.
Bye bye Belgium, one of the most fancied sides this Euros. England could yet win it!

Iam reigning it in a bit, I seem to recall Rumania and Iceland being disastrous games.
Interestingly the BBC reported today that Southgate's target when he took on the job was to achieve quarter finals in the World Cup and semis in the EUROS. This was to establish England as a top level team. As opposed to the randomness of previous regimes. He was tasked with keeping it consistent. Not with winning everytime.
The FA rightly stating that a successful team that regularly achieves this level will eventually win. And they do consider quarters and semis as a successful tournament.
I suppose that is a success, and that means Southgate has one more level to go, but he's on track for their plan.

Morning! Up very late this morning - didn't get to bed until 3.00am ! Watched the Italy game in our local bar - had lots of beer and wine (didn't spill any) plus apericena - snacks that kept coming all night  Really enjoyed the match but was worried about Belgium on the break - dangerous. Agreed with the disallowed goal but thought the penalty was a bit soft. We will be watching the England match at home again - will prepare snacks etc and enjoy (?) the game outside (temp will be in the mid 20s) |
