Well, it's a different looking competition but at least it's back! I have no idea about any of the teams so shall be coming to this fresh.

We switched on for the opening ceremony and promptly had a power cut that lasted an hour. Mum is a bit fan of Andrea Bocelli - and remember, Covid is preventing travel for a lot of those in the arts.
Oh well, an hour in and there is no score anyway.
I feel sorry for the various pubs that are screening the games if this happened city-wide.

Bad game usually means lots of drinking so I expect the pubs are pretty happy!

Will the pubs be able to pull pints without electricity?
A pub with no lights, TV, fruit machine etc. Pretty soul-less.

Sharp intake of breath here, I’m a huge fan of Andrea, one summer evening about 20 years ago I went to his concert in Hyde Park, wonderful  I expect he was chosen tonight because the opening ceremony took place in Rome, he is enormously popular in his home country I was so engrossed in the cricket I forgot all about the football! And that is what will probably continue, not enthusiastic about the Euros - I stopped caring much about the England side when Steven Gerrard retired, and Ireland didn’t get through did they  I will be hoping for Scotland to give a good account of themselves though! |

If it had just been 5 minutes Miranda it would have been laughed off - but sadly it went on for an hour. I have no idea if pubs or places where the public gather are obliged to stay open in such circumstances? An unfortunate start to the Euros for Edinburgh viewers (does that rhyme???). Fingers crossed it does not happen again.

We watched Italy v Turkey in our local bar, great atmosphere! We both wore our Italia shirts Good final score but I think Italy will have to improve a lot to get further in the competition. Walked home after the match, still 22 degrees at midnight. |

Italy will be tested against strong opposition, but then everyone is. They're a younger team and playing a different attacking system, something they don't normally do.
Not looking forward to England v Croatia!!

Something awful has happened to one of the players in the 4pm match. Medics are doing chest compressions on the pitch!

From what the commentator just said, it seems like he had a heart attack. It's the second time I've seen this. It happened to Marc Vivian Foe and I will never forget that.
