I think they've lost him. If they'd managed to resuscitate him, they would have had him on that trolley and off like a flash. It does not look good. Fingers crossed I'm wrong.

I am wrong, thank all the gods! UEFA just tweeted that he is now in hospital and in a stable condition.
And a lot of thanks should go to Fabrice Muamba who campaigned for defibs to be available at all grounds after the same happened to him. He survived because there was a cardiologist in the crowd who got to him within seconds as he immediately recognised what was wrong.

He is now awake and stable in hospital. My blood ran cold when I saw the CPR being administered. Well done to his team mates who realised at once how serious it was - I think they said one made sure his airways were clear - and the fast acting medical staff at the ground.
(They worked on Fabrice Mwanda for over an hour on the pitch when he dropped in the same way. 2 heart surgeons were in attendance at the match and came onto the pitch to work on him. They would want Erikson to be stable before moving him and presumably they have a difibulator at the grounds although I was not aware of that being used. I think I read that a team mate made sure his airways were clear seconds after he dropped. Perhaps manual compressions were enough to re-start his heart.)

I think the team must have had training in what to do in that situation. Or maybe that particular team mate had done it. But it was exactly the right thing to do. I don't know if they did use the defib but one of the paramedics had one on his back. Just saw the pictures of him being carried away conscious. So glad he's alright.
And hopefully this will teach the media to be a bit calmer tomorrow when England play. It's just a game of football FFS.

A good sign that Erikson must be stable and the doctors happy that he is out of immediate danger that the match is to conclude and the later game will go ahead as planned.
Seem to recall Fabrice Mwanda asking his surgeon
"Did we win?" when he came round after life saving surgery.
They better not let Erikson watch the match in ICU!
(I hope those players who out-act Bette Davis when they trip over a blade of grass stop hamming it up for non existent injuries for the rest of the Euros).

The players were, by then, aware that Eriksen was stable, conscious, and talking in hospital (as per Eriksen’s agent)

He was apparently conscious and able to talk as he was stretchered off the pitch so the medical care provided was of such a standard that they were able to stabilise him on the pitch.
Wonderful work by the medics!

Totally! Sounds a weird thing to say but these the only place better than a football pitch to have a heart attack is in a hospital! Hope he pulls through as well as Muamba did.

Ian Wright has been amongst those condemning the live feed for continuing as Eriksson received life saving treatment. It was un-necessary, although as some have pointed out they doubtless did not realise just how serious it was - but once the CPR was pictured they should have cut the live broadcast. Cutting to images of Eriksson's partner in tears and being comforted by other players were totally unwarranted.

The only reason I can think of for the BBC is that there was no-one in the studio to cut to. And the players obviously felt the same about the cameras as they surrounded him, in spite of being so upset themselves. I do agree it went on for too long though.

Eriksson was treated with a defibrillator as it looked like a small seizure, then they continued with CPR but he was awake on oxygen when taken off the pitch, his teammates were obviously shocked and you really felt for his partner who was pitch side. Fair play to the players on both teams who came out and finished the match. Finland were debutants at the Euros and they’ll never forget their 1st match. I hope Eriksson recovers but like Fabrice Muamba that might be the end of his playing career.
Gary apologised for the broadcast but said it wasn’t under their control, all of the commentators were in shock as many of them know Christian Eriksson from him playing with Spurs.
The other match on ITV Belgium Russia is a bit subdued
As long as the player recovers that’s the main thing

And the players obviously felt the same about the cameras as they surrounded him, in spite of being so upset themselves. I do agree it went on for too long though. They will have a “package” to cut to if that were the case. Look at it this way, if from the moment that it was clear Eriksen was in difficulty the host feed immediately went to a static shot of the opposite goal or a random patch of grass, or sky, they’d have very quickly gone to the studio or something else. Twice it was clearly visible that CPR was being carried out and twice his distressed wife was shown, albeit shielded by Schmichel the second time, and yet Lineker preferred to tweet that it’s the host feed and nothing to do with them. Ian Wright, who has broadcast experience too, took another view… (He works for ITV, currently and, as it happens, I don’t believe ITV would have behaved much differently to the BBC).

Well here we go. I was going to watch at my sister's but my nephew had a prediction/ nightmare that Croatia win, Scotland win and then Scotland put us out of the competition.
I decided to have lunch and come home to watch in peace. It sounded too much like a possibility frankly.
