Ok - just a suggestion. It's hot. We're all tired. We are nervous of crowds during the pandemic. How about just blowing the final whistle at half time? Harry Kane and actor Ryan Gosling - ever seen in the same room? As for the anthems. I admired Gareth Southgate who, from the start of his managerial career, told the team to learn the words and either sing them or mouth them. But NOT to stand there with their mouths shut. I think there is an argument for a professional singer to lead the anthems at every match. There would be no shortage of singers happy to oblige and it would stop the 3 speeds - music/crowd/players causing chaos.

I think they should just turn the mic off when filming the players. The crowd always sound better so they should be the only ones we hear. And if there is very little crowd, the tune will do.

In the various matches I am sure I have heard mention of
Shakira and Cher.
Assuming neither lady is playing, I must be mishearing the players names.
Sublime match from England. Play like this and you deserve to win Euro 2020(21)

That'll do nicely. And the fans bless, British living abroad have driven across the continent just to make sure someone was there.

Well done to the players. All we need is for everyone else to keep the heid.

Thought it disrespectful towards the Ukrainian team that when they had possession and attacking those 2 clowns in the commentary box were still banging on about England. I wont call them commentators because all we heard throughout was a running conversation between the two of them regarding the England team. Bring back Barry Davies.

For anyone who doesn't know who Lee Anderson is, he's the MP that declared he is boycotting the Euros because of the England team taking the knee.

ITV coverage of the game far superior. Wondering last time an England player scored a hat trick for England.

Result dominating the news today. Ok up to a point, but I suspect there are other things happening in the world...

I think we can distract ourselves with a moment of joy once every four years.
There's still lots of other news and at this time of the year we always have wall to wall sports news be it Wimbledon (annually), Olympics (that'll be next), golf (whenever we have someone in it), cricket (if we're doing well), Grand National (annually).
We like sports and it is news and this today is happy news. Yesterday it was Andy Murray struggling, the young girl winning. Today it could be F1 with two English drivers on the grid.
Love it all.

I see they've raised about £35,000 for the German girl crying in the crowd.
I do think that is an over the top reaction, every cup final or major competition the cameras zone in on some child being consoled by their parent. It's the TV companies that make these children the focus of attention. Nobody has ever raised money for the child before (to my knowledge) because if you support a team you'd better get used to the lows as well as the highs. Mostly lows in my case, the tears dried up about 40 years ago with my team!!
I know they said that the English fans laughed at her, but that's what they do, this is pretty tribal stuff you know. Even in a Premier League game the opposing fans would take the mick and shout things like "You're going down" and chants far too lurid for delicate tastes on here.
Two solutions:
1. Ask TV companies not to zone in on children that are upset - it's cheap TV and to keep broadcasting or distributing images only makes that worse. 2. Don't take your child to a match if you don't think they can cope with losing.
