It's one of the new types of foul, very popular at the moment. Professional footballers know they're going to foul players, look for the foul, even encourage it. They hit the floor at the drop of a hat and some have already been booked for that.
Prior to VAR and even with it, standing on someone's foot became popular because it's hard for a ref to be sure it happened. To kick someone means raising your leg, a thing refs have always looked for.
We dont use VAR for that many fouls in midfield but UEFA warned all players in their briefing that they would be, and that they'd be looking at this. Last time it was holding and we benefitted from that.
He was lucky Italy played a second team, substituting 8 first team players otherwise the score line could have been dire with one player down.
I am sure Switzerland and Turkey played a 1st 11 and are feeling a bit aggrieved about it, but it's within the rules to play anyone from your squad, but it certainly helped Wales as Italy already knew they were through.

We watched in our local bar - the Euros are becoming very expensive! Had our Italian shirts on but I felt a bit torn but a welsh friend said residence is what counts so we were happy for an Italian win

Scotland's star player, Billy Gilmour, has tested positive for Covid and will miss tomorrow's game. That, in a nutshell, sums up what it is like to support Scotland...

It's very strange that one player can test positive and the others don't. We've seen this in a couple of teams. It might be who they are staying with, or where they are going when they're not playing. I have heard that several in Italy have been seen on golf courses etc.

They are supposed to be in controlled "bubbles" but that does not prevent a member of hotel staff or someone working at a golf course that they visit from passing on the virus.

You would have to be in close contact, sitting or standing with them. I imagine most hotel receptions have screens up and staff are wearing masks. There are minimum numbers in lifts and restaurants.
It's not the only case Portugal lost one of their good players too abd none of the others tested positive.
I'd hate to say it the LF tests, but it is possible.

According to Gary Linekar, England are now guaranteed to progress to the last 16 regardless of how they play tomorrow.
Scotland on the other hand, will be returning home.

I think if you win this next game you will still be in.

Two good games last night. Very pleased for Denmark but sad for Finland.

I felt the same. It was lovely to see the Danish players dedicating the goals to Erikson.
So - ere we go tonight.
Can Scotland boogie or not?

We've got one too!
Needless to say Croatia scored first so it is 1-1 at half time.

Oh well, another tournament that will miss having the tartan army. I see from Twitter that the English fans aren’t happy even though they’re winning and are through to the next round. You should really try being a Scotland fan, then you’ll have something to moan about.

Same old same old.
We are so damned unlucky - there were many chances at the goal mouth which would have gone in for other teams.
But not us.
