Plenty of live chat going on in the BBC studio. Least something's live. How about some highlights Beeb?

I really enjoyed the women’s gymnastics. I’ve always liked Sunisa Lee and was pleased for the Brazilian, getting a first medal in the sport for her country. Our twins did well, coming 10th and 13th. Now Beth Tweddle. I know she wants to be supportive and not overly critical, but you cannot say one twin made a very slight mistake when what she actually did was fall off the beam. You lose a whole point for that.
I’m not a fan of the Germans’ leggings. They are black and imvho that makes it very difficult to see the leg line. At the Europeans when they were against a very dark backdrop I could only see them from the waist up! I think if they want to preserve their modesty in leggings they should be made to wear something flesh coloured, or neon which would stand out clearly. Lime green!

I had no problem with the leggings at all and actually preferred them to the ridiculously high cut bottoms with buttocks hanging out that many female athletes wear.
There's a long way to go isn't there. Some commentary is fine but they do slip back into descriptions like "flirty", "flighty", 'cheeky" and "elegant" a bit too much.
I know some of you will hate me but I would prefer the floor to be like the mens, no music, no skippy tripping about and rolling around the floor trying to look pensive, petulant or pleading. It never really goes with whatever music they choose, because there isn't much music that has a break for a tumbling sequence. And I hate the fact that they're judged on how much "they draw the crowd in" as was said today. I've always found it unfair to the women who can tumble the bejeezus out of it, but can't flit about like a butterfly!!

Not read the last few posts but I'm loving the women's gymnastics! I'm seeing a lot of gymnasts I've never seen before so it's good to get back to it.

I also enjoyed the gymnastics. The ladies floor routines do not gain anything from the music which is often quite bland, imo. If you are going to use music get something punchy to get the audience (when there is one) clapping along.

So pleased for Andrade! Feel for Jade Carey though. Poor girl trying to compete with everyone celebrating. And she did well apart from the step out. Showed some real grit considering she was an individual entry to start with

If we take away the 'skippy tripping' then we take away what distinguishes it from the men. It's one of the problems I have with Biles. She did it like a bloke in a leotard. No elegance, no style, no charm. The dancing does sometimes verge on the ridiculous but it's part of the women's style of gymnastics and to remove it would be a mistake IMO. The women shouldn't have to be like the men to be taken seriously. They are strong and mentally tough and go through as much pain as the men. I hope it stays like it is. As for the leotards, I admire the German women for making the stand but I'm not sure it's as big a problem as is made out. Otherwise a lot of other teams would be wearing the leggings. Especially the Americans as they were the ones with the pervy coach who is now doing 99 years in jail.

I have just read that under the terms of the rights deal the BBC coverage of live events has been reduced from 5000 hours at Rio to 350 hours! The GB Olympics chief has called the coverage disappointing. I wonder if that was the only deal we could get or if some bright spark thought it was a good one. I mean I have been lucky as I like gymnastics but other people must have been struggling to find their sport. And once the track and field starts I have no doubt that will get saturation coverage to the exclusion of nearly everything else (except Tome Daley).

Looking forward to seeing some trampolining today - at least if you cannot watch 'live' you know the BBC will be repeating the footage throughout the day.
Marion the lack of hours of live coverage shows!

I’ve no doubt there was much back slapping and high fiving in Portland Place when they managed to get less than 10% of the live hours of Rio when the reality is Discovery essentially gifted that as they knew it would be a PR disaster for them in the UK if they aired their contractually obliged FTA portion another way. It’s worth remembering it’s not just about viewer enjoyment. Just about every sporting body in the UK relies upon - to a certain extent - corporate sponsorship and that further relies upon halo events such as the Olympics to drive funding towards those bodies. This will hurt them. Wimbledon is next for Eurosport. They’re already in there. It’s just a matter of time.

Interested to see a mixed relay race - teams of 2 men and 2 women. Commentator Michael Johnson (?) is not a fan but Jessica Ennis thinks it has potential.
