They had the World Relay Championship a few years back (pre-C19), it was great fun.

I enjoyed it too! Was a good race today but Nigeria should have gone with the usual order. Patience was fast enough to beat the other women but there was no way she was going to keep up with the men.

Good to see Michael Johnson in the studio. Almost makes up for Clare Balding. Must be galling for all the non-africans in the 10K to know that the race will inevitably be dominated by the africans. The Aussie took them on and paid the price.

One of the commentary team suggested it should be up to the officials - maybe at the last minute - to decide in what order they run. Men first 2 legs, women next 2. Alternating. Women first 2, men second 2 etc.
Still it is nice to see. I wish the various high profile golf tournaments could be mixed. Let the pairs be male/female. You would still end up with one women winner and one man winner, but the ladies game would get a boost to its profile if they received the same TV coverage as the men.

There was a time when female athletes had no time for cosmetic glamour. Now they combine image as well as skill. I thin Flo-Jo started it in the 80s.

The Eurosport athletic coverage is better than I was expecting. A lot less chat as they don't have 4 people in a studio talking about what happened whilst something else is happening behind them.
Although I'm a bit annoyed that I've paid for it and still get ads when watching E1 or E2

My daughter sent me a link. The Japanese have commissioned kimonos for 213 of the countries, they are absolutely stunning.
If anyone can find a link to share I think you'd love seeing them.

I don't think the non-Africans find it galling to be in the distance races. It is what it is, the Africans tend to be better, fair enough.
Athletes find an event that suits them and let's face it most are just thrilled and chuffed to bits to be in the Olympics.
