For the first time I was not particularly interested in who won. All three had skills but also made errors. All the emphasis seems to be on flavours. I wonder if novelty trumped quality. The showstoppers at the end looked terrible compared to previous years where the final bakes had precision as well as flair.
Needs a thorough review by the production team to decide if it really wants to me Masterchef or a programme focussing on baking.
Perhaps it has run its course.
A worthy winner nonetheless.

I would have liked Abdul to win but not upset at the result. In fact I thought she was the favourite. I agree there did seem to be an awful lot of mistakes this year. Prue and Paul always bang on about how it has to be perfect etc but it so often wasn’t. I still enjoyed the show though, but find the showstoppers a bit “out there” a lot of the time. A spectacular wedding cake wouldn’t go amiss one week for example.

I enjoyed it, but there did seem to be a lot of things going wrong and I didn't fancy any of the picnics. Perhaps the summer pudding with jelly and meringue mousse was just a step to far for four hours - none of them did a nice one, which must have meant nobody got a high score there. Sandro just tries to do too much and then hasn't got the time to finish everything. I do think his 'world' cake looked the best, despite them saying it was messy. The orang-u-tan cake was awful to look at.
I don't think a picnic, a summer pudding type of affair and a world cake was too much of a stretch for the final. I just think they had half an hour too little on every set. It was the final. I don't think it would have killed them to allow them that. But you know this is TV world, they need to have things going wrong for the duh-duh-duh moments on screen. It's not just about perfect baking it's also about TV moments. On that basis I think they probably like a disaster every week.
I also don't think that this time around the people's personalities came over as well. That's probably all in the editing too.

Junior Bake Off is much better, I think. As mentioned in the article, it's a lot closer to the original ethos of the show. And much nicer to watch.

Need to go back to the beginning homebaking amateurs making things with equipment most or at least keen bakers would have at home. Keep it simple. Make us want to try. I can't see many people trying a hanging Halloween piñata!!

I totally agree with this article. We have now stopped watching because of this sort of nonsense.

I agree too. It's not a patisserie show, it's about scrumptious pies you want to dive into, luscious cakes that make you go wow. It's about what we think it will taste like not what it looks like. There's way too much of that faffing about making a tower out of rice crispies and basically decorating a very normal sponge. I'm never going to model myself and my son out of sugar paste (probably not enough in one packet anyway), but I would drool over an apple crumble cake with fresh cream and poach apples through the middle. It's technically difficult to make a peach melba, but it's a very simple thing to look at and wouldn't you like to see them make something you can have a go at or at least trot along to Greggs and buy one. Do they even sell usu?? in Asda. Make it real again.

It’s in all the newspapers now, so I expect everyone knows Giving up because he couldn’t commit the time as he has several projects on the go. Took me a while to get used to him, but he came across as a kind man who knew when contestants needed a friendly word In contrast to Noel, I really don’t see the point of him, he doesn’t know when his antics are inappropriate. Probably needs the job, I don’t think there’s a queue to employ him… It will be interesting to see who takes Matt’s place

Why is Noel still there? I don’t think he contributes anything useful - and on occasions in the last series he came perilously close to pushing stressed contestants over the edge

I am afraid I disagree. I would rather Noel hosted on his own
