It was a fish sandwich made to look like a cake. I do love things Swedish and they do wonderful cakes, but cutting open a lovely looking cake and finding it was made of fish and bread would not make me very happy

And there were ten of them!
The two contestants who were away sick won’t be sorry to have missed that task

Fish and chips with mushy peas served stone cold, covered in curry sauce. Inside a “cake”. 🤢
I like some of the contestants, but those were the most revolting monstrosities I’ve ever seen.

I wish they'd just have a basics week. Consisting of British Classics, like Victoria Sponge, Bakewell Tart, Meat Pies, Butterfly Cakes, Scones, griddle cakes and so on. They could use different fillings and flavours in toppings and things. I think we're scraping the barrel of unusual bakes now.

Yes! Just like the sewing bee could do with some basic skills being tested.
I don’t mind some of the foreign cakes they have had on. I think there has been a few which looked good, but dear God that Swedish thing was monstrous. And the sandwiches were just swamped with the “frosting” so would presumably be quite soggy. 🤮

They could increase the level of skill by making it a Cake & Bake stall at a local fete. This way they'd have to batch bake and plan there timings etc. It wouldn't just be 12 identical butterfly cakes, it would 12 small bakewells or tarts, 6 loaf cakes of some type, 12 sausage rolls, 12 savoury slices etc. Enough for a table.
There's nothing better than a perfectly done chocolate or Victoria sandwich cake.

I feel sorry for Pru and Paul having to eat them. But presumably they were involved in the setting of the task?

Well the Hallowe'en Showstopper was pretty naff. I did like the sound of the Polish Spiced Apple cake, even if they didn't.

I still think the programme is dying… gone are the days of bakers demonstrating real expertise producing items the audience might ever be interested in making
Now there are so many weird tasks
‘Our first Halloween Week’ said Matt (or Noel) proudly. Why have one?
Paul looks bored, the contestants are nowhere near as interesting as in earlier years
Time to say That’s enough?

It's the Channel 4 ethos of having characters rather than people who can bake. If you watch a BBC episode, you can see how much the programme has changed.

If they are going down the “theme weeks from Strictly” road will we have “cakes from movies”?
I liked the sound of Polish spiced apple cake as well!
