Australia lead in the Womens Skeleton would you believe. The Brits are struggling sadly.

Torvill and Dean said on the radio this morning that they want to see the British dance couple to be in around 7/8th place. They said several top couples have indicated this will be their last Olympics which would see our couple go up the rankings for the next Olympics.
They also said that skating has been watching Valieva's coach for a few years, because they regularly turn out young skaters who suddenly arrive on the scene for the Europeans and other competitions just before an Olympics. These skaters then tend to disappear from the scene equally as quickly or never replicate their success again.
The inference was that these young skaters are more or less dropped once they begin to take charge of their lives. Certainly a serious accusation that a coach is drugging 14 and 15 year olds. T&D seemed to link it to puberty. Worrying.

Very. And it wouldn't surprise me at all. Russia has always doped their athletes. And they won't stop just cos there's a change of name of the federation. It's still the same set-up and coaches.

Finally got around to watching the Men's Free Skate. And it's a little bit heart-breaking to watch Hanyu.

Hmm... I'm not at all sure there isn't something dodgy going on with the Japanese team. Uno did not look happy about beating Hanyu. Let's have a look at this other fella.

Finally got around to watching the Men's Free Skate. And it's a little bit heart-breaking to watch Hanyu. It was. But if he hadn’t decided to go big or go home, maybe he could have won bronze. I didn’t do the maths to check if that was possible but I think it was madness to try the axel. Fair enough if you had landed it in practice and it was 50:50, but he has never landed it so….. He seemed cheerful enough afterwards though so maybe his expectations weren’t all that great. Now we know Valieva has been cleared to skate. I don’t quite know what message this sends. It’s OK to be a drugs cheat so long as you are a young drugs cheat? Or it is unfair to ban you without giving you the time to prepare an appeal? This is the same drug as used by that Chinese swimmer Sun, and he was banned after all. She may be an innocent child who was duped by adults, or she may in fact be pretty canny. I guess we will never know. But I would be pissed off if I were skating in the women’s final I think. I wonder what would have happened if it were Nathan Chen, or indeed any other medal shoo-in.

Just heard on Sky News that if Valieva is placed in the competition there will be no medal ceremony unless or until this situation is resolved. So that is no doubt something else which will piss off the other skaters! Well unless silver and bronze were likely to be Russian I suppose.

Was really pleased with GB ice dancers! They did well to get in the top 10.

I thought they did very well indeed. Loved the French, preferred the Bronze Americans to the Silver Russians though.

This is going well, fingers crossed for the curling.
Apparently it could br our worst games for 20 years.
Considering we probably average two bronzes and a silver over the last 20 years, that must be going some.

We had a gold winning athlete in the women's skeleton for the last two Games, remember. So that upped the average.

Well-deserved I wish them all the best in the Final, which might be on Saturday I think? And the women’s team in their semi tomorrow
