I've decided not to watch the women's skating. The whole thing has been devalued so I'd rather not bother. And I feel sorry for Valieva. Some journalists seem to have forgotten she's only 15 years old

I watched it. The winning Russian was very good, the silver Russian had 5 quads. 5! Not so hot on the artistry. Valieva was fourth and tbh I’m surprised she was as high as that as she went to pieces. After two immediate errors she seemed to lose all form and just hurried through as fast as she could. It was tough to watch. Robin Cousins was in tears afterwards! According to Claire, the translation of the coach’s words when she came off the ice were along the lines of why did you do this, why didn’t you do that, not one word of consolation, which one would give to someone of 25 let alone 15. There was an excellent skate from the Polish girl, she started at 24 and finished twelfth! Which was where our commentators said she would have hoped to be had things gone well in the short. So well done to her.

Apparently all the Russian skaters have the same coach.
We now know that Valieva had traces of 3 drugs in her system. Hard to claim they were all your grandads.
Just found it distasteful. So only read about it. I didn't want to watch.
Remember they only found traces in her test, a week later they wouldn't have found anything.

GB finally break their duck and win a medal ....in the men's curling. Will it be Silver or Gold?

Apparently the woman who got silver in the skating had a complete, screaming meltdown in the stands, I presume because she didn’t get the gold! Maybe she thought 5 quads should seal the deal, but she was cursing her coaches and at one point saying she hated everything and wouldn’t go for her medal. Blimey! She did calm down later. But tensions clearly run high in that particular training camp.

Well they're probably all coming off their drugs!!!
No that's mean, but I think she said something like the whole competition was ruined and she wished she'd gone home.
Then again, she might have said - I hope you've got my lookalike to do my pee, otherwise there'll be hell on!

The way Russian skating works, it's likely to be her only shot at an Olympic medal cos she won't be picked for the next one and it's been ruined for her.

Yes I know I was being sarcastic before but I'd be surprised if we see any of them again. Gold and Silver will go professional, they haven't been caught or necessarily done anything wrong. The young skater may get off because of her age, but she'll be lucky to get a top job anywhere.
They will probably change the rules so that nobody understands 16 can take part. Personally I think it should be 18 and I also think that considering they start with these coaches when they're about 10 it wouldn't matter what age they are, they've been groomed by people who have immense power.

I’m disappointed for them, so close, but I hope when the initial sadness passes they will be very proud of themselves, because they should be

Just watched the skating and that final lift by the Chinese couple was just incredible!

Yes they were excellent.
And Gold in the curling.
Chap on the radio from some sports body was saying this morning that we didn't do as badly as people are saying. We qualified into the finals and got top 20 in lots of events and frankly that's punching above our weight in the Winter Olympics.

I think he’s right I wanted to stay awake for the Curling final but couldn’t… I did leave the radio on low and woke at one point to hear yelling, and the word gold, then a bit later the National Anthem Many congratulations to them!

I think a lot of people forget how tough it is for our athletes to train in winter sports. The fact that we are in the top 20 of anything except curling is something for us to be proud of.
