Am watching the Curling - mixed doubles. I'm watching it on Discovery+ so it may not be on BBC yet as it's the opening rounds. Scotland v Australia to start!

I found some skating on iPlayer, the short programmes in the Team event for men and ice dance. I thought the pairs was to come straight after but could see no reference to it in the content notes for each programme. One was at the end of a three hour show so it meant a lot of scrolling through to find it but one was stand alone. Still it’s encouraging they showed some and hopefully we will get all of the individual programmes.

Now watching the Men's Team skating highlights from yesterday. It's very badly edited!
ETA: Actually, it's not. That was me getting confused about an earlier competition they decided to show a bit of! A lot of new competitors in this Team competition so it's interesting to watch.

Short Track Mixed Relay was great. At times it was a bit confusing. Wouldn't mind a definite outline of the track edge.
We didn't do very well in short track today but come on, one of our team works full time in a furniture shop and had to raise the money to get there. We really need to honour the fact that they qualify.
Some of them do really well in Europe but there's very little funding.
China are getting the VAR decisions 🙄

Nathan Chen and Shona Umo are looking very good! Bodes well for the main competition next week.

Did anyone watch the documentary about Ice Dancing. Skaters on the Edge. 4 episodes. It was quite good.
I may have the title wrong!

No, haven't heard of it. What channel was it on?
I'm enjoying the ice skating on D+ (now on the pairs in the Teams comp) but the female commentator took a little getting used to. She knows what she's talking about as she's a retired skater but she sounds like Jane Horrocks! LOL!

And now, I'm watching Radze explain how the edges and toe picks work. Slightly confused about how he knows anything about figure skating. Turns out to be nothing at all! But he is good at reading a script.....

I think the American team are very strong this year. If the rest don't pick their game up in the skating, the US are going to get a lot of golds.

Freeze - Skating on the Edge - BBC3.
Looks at British Ice Skaters training through lockdown, trying to find partners to hopefully qualify for the British Team.
They do note that other countries arranged for training facilities to stay open. I bet they did, pity there's not an ice rink in No.10.

Training has always been tough for British skaters. So many rinks have closed in the last 40 years that there's hardly anywhere. Most of them train abroad if they can raise the funding. So it's no surprise that skating was very low on the agenda during the pandemic.

Not surprised to hear it. Our skating programme has completely fallen apart.
