We've had so many of these Irish stories on this programme and others about DNA and never one that is about some family being driven out because they didn't want to hide ammunition in their barns or a grandfather who was shot because he didn't want independence, and many who did but were worried about the dominance of the Catholic Church in the whole thing.
I remember a relative saying 'Independence- what we got was 70 years of a Catholic Dictatorship, when we could have had the NHS, state school education without the f..k..g brothers beating us and social security".
They never talk to those Irish people do they. It's become a bit like the slavery and holocaust stories, the old have a Guinness, here's a fiddle, arent we all fine so we are. And all the celebs say things like 'I'm so proud'. Are you, didn't you wonder why your ancestors moved away? Didn't you hear them say - they had to leave because it was a mixed marriage or they had to leave because they shouted at the priest and refused to pay them their weekly shilling.

I watched Dev and found him quite engaging but agree he never seemed to question the rights or wrongs of what his family were doing in Ireland, he just assumed they were heroic. Also, I thought to myself when he met his aunt from Florida… well you can’t be short of a bob or two, your father knows where all his family live, what was to stop you getting a flight to Florida to meet them?

This week's programme was interesting with a very engaging personality seeking his ancestors. I do like Chris Ramsey! The two grandparents researched went through awful times during the various campaigns.
We were interested to hear about the Lying In Hospital because my husband was born in the General Lying In Hospital in York Road, near Waterloo Station!

Yes that was interesting. I was hoping they would show why they moved from London to South Shields. Whether it was the military connection or something else.
But some different aspects of history made a change.

I'm afraid I stopped watching it halfway through. Her constant explaining of what the expert was telling her got right on my wick.

I thought it was good, I liked her, and we haven’t had an Australian one for a while.

Just watched Chris Ramsey yesterday. He was a very nice guy wasnt he. Like Kevin from Grimsby he engaged so well with the experts, and I think the experts perk up when greeted by such upbeat celebs. His story was very interesting, I enjoyed it.
