There are surely films that you had high expectations of, but somehow, at the end of it all, you felt let down by it all. Mine has to be the Lord Of the Rings Trilogy which, I felt was a travesty. I know they had to cut out a number of things, but they cut out too many things, and changed things around too much and, though I watched it to the end, I could not feel satisfied with what I had seen. Any others? Were those the cinema release version or the extended one, which addressed SOME of those issues?

I didn't even go to see Jack Reacher with Tom Cruise. I have read most of the books and Jack Reacher was 6ft 2in and weighed about 220 lbs. He was an ex military policeman and tough as they come. To put teeny, weeny, pretty boy, Tom Cruise in the role spoiled it for me. I couldn't stomach watching such a miscast film.

I laughed quite hard when I heard TC was playing Jack Reacher. Got to be the worst miscasting in Hollywood history. Was the film a hit?

Going back a long way, The Deerhunter. Multiple Oscars. It was half an hour before I could understand a word of what De Niro was saying! I watched The Deerhunter with my elderly stepfather. At the end, I asked him what he thought about it, to which his only reply was "They should have been with us in Burma".

Till Death Us Do Part. I loved the TV sitcom, but I gave up on the film after 20 minutes.

Lost In Translation has already been mentioned as has Lost Encounters.. I (seriously) thought that I was missing something with that....I wasn't!
Million Dollar Baby. What a load of mush, Clint Eastwood!
The Village...just why?
A History of Violence which was brilliant in the first half but completely lost it's way in the second half.

American Beauty has been mentioned and, at my first watching, I was disappointed with it. However it was so hyped that I think my expectations were unreasonably high. I have grown to like it very much. It helps that Kevin Spacey is in it, I think he's wonderful.

I watched The Village while I was on a plane and thought my brain must have been scrambled by the flight. I thought I must have missed something somewhere. So I watched it again on TV and realised it wasn't me,it was the film.

A Fish Called Wanda, Gravity, Black Swan, I could probably think of a lot more.

Grease 2
That wasn't just a disappointment, that was a crime against cinema.

Lost In Translation - a real snooze-fest. American Beauty - couldn't see what all the fuss was about. I was never a fan of ET, but I realise I am in a minority on this. I thought Lost in Translation was mystifyingly over-rated. However I liked American Beauty, have watched it a couple of times. I thought The Martian was a disappointment, and very far-fetched. I could not see why The Departed got the acclaim it did. Nothing against Matt Damon by the way! - he was brilliant in The Talented Mr Ripley. Those are a couple, that spring to mind.

Agree that The Talented Mr Ripley was outstanding.

If we all liked/disliked the same things there would be a lot of the film industry out of work. What else could they do, I wonder 4chsmu1
