They changed the meaning of the title too. In the film it's the gypsy girl that young Mr Slater "took a shine to", "I never found out her name" he says... But in the novel it's, um, something else. Something about "A rose by any other name" I think, or maybe I got that wrong; it's been a while, and I'm not very bright.
I enjoyed the film though, especially Ron Perlman as the twisted Salvatore, and William Hickey as Urbetino.
According to IMDB, there's an 8 part series next year, with James Cosmo and John Tuturro.
ooooooooooooooooooh.....

Lee Child, whose Jack Reacher novels were adapted for two Tom Cruise movies, says he's signed a deal to adapt his novels for the small screen.
Child says that Cruise, who starred in 2012's Jack Reacher and 2016's Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, won't reprise his role as a nomadic former U.S. Army major and won't star in the potential TV series.
Child says he wants the TV Jack Reacher to be more like the imposing, burly character from his books. “Cruise, for all his talent, didn’t have that physicality,” Child tells BBC News. "I really enjoyed working with Cruise. He’s a really, really nice guy. We had a lot of fun. But ultimately the readers are right. The size of Reacher is really, really important and it’s a big component of who he is… So what I’ve decided to do is – there won’t be any more movies with Tom Cruise. Instead we’re going to take it to Netflix or something like that. Long-form streaming television, with a completely new actor.” He adds: “We’re rebooting and starting over and we’re going to try and find the perfect guy.” The proposed Jack Reacher series will be pitched to networks and streaming services.

I have only seen 2 of the Star Wars franchise (return of the Jedi and Star Wars the original first one). Could never be bothered to see any of the others. Fell asleep in one of the newer ones. (Hides underground at this point)

There was controversy from the start about the choice of Tom Cruise playing Reacher, Lee Child was told he wasn’t right for the job but went ahead anyway probably under pressure from the studio to use a big name. Sadly Cruise was big in name only. I’ll be interested to see who is chosen to replace him. In the books he’s 6’5 and built like a brick outhouse but devastatingly attractive.

Alexander Skarsgard. Trust me on this.
And thank the gods Child has seen sense at last.

I haven't read any of them, but Mr Delia is a big fan of Lee Childs and laughed loudly when Tom Cruise was first cast in the part. He is so different physically, it was bound to upset readers and fans. Typical of the film studios to think they have to have a big name on the posters.

I think that fuss was a little unfair to Tom Cruise. I don't think it was his name that necessarily was the big thing but, rather his money, since the films wouldn't have been made without him as producer and, likely, nor now would a TV series. I think Tom Cruise just likes making action films but knows he can't make a Mission Impossible film every year (though 7 and 8 have been announced and will be one year apart), and the films are typically very well made. I rate MI films higher than Bourne and Bond right now, the last of the former, and the last two of the latter, being just horrible (and films that really disappointed me).

The Favourite. There's 2 hours I won't get back. Dull, slow, lots of swearing and the few funny scenes are used in the trailer.

Oh dear - The Favourite's on my DVD rental list. It's difficult to make the decision to not watch it, with Olivia Colman's Oscar for Best Actress and all. Maybe I'll just push it down in priority a bit...

True, though the imdb user rating is 7.6 from 115k reviewers which isn't so bad. Quick scan of individual imdb user reviews shows it's quite polarising - the great majority are in the 8 or above and 3 or below ranges, very few in the middle. The metacritic score is considerably higher, so this is another one that the critics think more of than Joe Public does.

Can I confess that The Lion King - live action, left me unimpressed. I still prefer the cartoon and I think that small children can cope with threat and danger better in a cartoon. In this the hyenas are very dark and incredibly evil and take a much bigger role. There were parents whipping their children out of the cinema very quickly at certain moments. In it's defence it is a PG and it does say there is mild peril and threat. I am not sure how much peril and threat a four year old can take when the animals look real but you take them are your own risk I suppose.
It is very clever - some scene changes and an increasing/decreasing role for some animals
