Just catching the Women's from yesterday. Pogrilaya is still falling apart when she makes a mistake. That's unusual for a Russian competitor. They usually grit their teeth and get on with it. She's a proper drama queen.

And in complete contrast .... Medvedeva.
Every now and again, someone is born to do something and be innately brilliant at it. Like watching Usain Bolt run a 100m. Just pure talent and an absolute joy to watch.

Just had one of those weird moments where you see a sportsman and think 'god, is he still competing? He can't be, he must be in his fifties by now. At least!' And then the commentator says 'if you think he looks familiar, don't worry, that's the son and he looks just like his dad'.
Mix of relief I'm not going mad and sadness at how old I'm getting......

I have just caught up and really enjoyed it too.
I do wish we could have a second commentator who knows about skating! It may be a bit unfair to judge this new one on just the highlights but I felt she added nothing. Looks at the number of ex tennis players the BBC uses yet here it is just RC and ANOther just rattling off the names and the occasional platitude. Has Sue Barker been permanently replaced?

I actually quite liked her on the RB. She asks the kind of questions that people would ask Robin Cousins if they had the chance. On the highlights you didn't get the full range of the conversations between the two of them.

The World Figure Skating Championships are on in Japan this week which I only spotted from next week's RT! There is a two hour highlights show on BBC2 on Sunday 24 March, 15.00. From what I can gather, there is red button coverage of the free programmes as follows.
Pairs. Wednesday (20/3) night, but Thursday morning really. 01.15-5.30 Women. Friday (22/3) morning 08.15-12.50 Dance. Friday night but Saturday morning really. 03.15-07.10. This says it is BBC Sport Online not RB. Men. Saturday (23/3) morning. 08.30-12.50
I shall set the recorder whilst this is in my mind!

It's not. Not so far anyway. It's all on the BBC Sport site. Which is a complete pain in the backside to use.

Using my Firestick iplayer app I couldn't see it on there. But when I started to type in Skating as a search, up popped World Skating Champs 2019 as an option and last night's mega session was there! I didn't check it out but it said it was red button and lasted over four hours.

Our Pairs skaters did a really nice programme! The woman is a 39 year old mother of three, back from a ten year break as a coach.

I just watched it and it was beautiful! And so well done! One little mistake where she had to put her hand down so as not to fall but other than that, great stuff.
And they looked like they were loving every second of it.

I haven't watched much of today's programme but two days in and both competitions have British skaters! And they aren't ice dancers! And even better, neither came last!! Now, must settle back in for the remaining three hours...

Maybe Dancing on Ice encouraged kids to get into it?
