That was the most recent series when he was one of two rather dumb villains whose story ended abruptly and turned out to be unconnected with the main plot, if I remember correctly. I remember him mostly from Doctor Who! One of the Christmas specials.

I think it was the media speculation that was everywhere. It would be interesting to learn when Don was approached for the role?
Not sure what family he has? Actors with younger children find it a strain to be away for so long.
Danny John Jules said his older kids were delighted when he was on the show - holidays in a gorgeous part of the world.
