Wonderful acting by all concerned, especially Shaun Evans and Roger Allam. Now we know why older Morse never mentions Thursday. Nice to hear Robbie Lewis mentioned!

Very, very good. Nice touches in the words spoken by Anton Lesser and the music for the final section was spot on. Congratulations to all involved.

Lovely, fitting end to a terrific series with the crime of the week playing second fiddle to what we were all really interested in, the tying off of all the loose ends and reinforcing links with future Morse. Poor Morse, to lose his love and his mentor on the same day, and in a manner that also compromised him. No wonder he never mentions it again.
I do think, as many others have said, that Russell Lewis's original plan was probably to replace Thursday with McNutt several series ago, which would have made his writing job much easier, but he knew he had gold in his hands in the form of Roger Allam. He could have named that character McNutt, I suppose – I don't remember now how McNutt is mentioned in the Morse stories, do we ever meet him and learn anything of his back story?
Joan made the right choice in marrying Strange, whom we know to be fine, decent, caring, with the same priorities of family as Fred. Of course we knew she wouldn't end up with Morse, but I'm happy for her that she settled with someone who cares for her and will give her a good life.
Not sure of the significance of the gunshot – Morse spun the barrel when he inserted the bullet so the implication was Russian Roulette. Or was he firing it to get rid of the bullet and therefore any future temptation, and as a final break with Thursday?
I just loved the little touches – ending with Faure's Requiem which is how Morse begins, the sideways glimpse that we were meant to think was Colin Dexter, the two jags, the two pairs of eyes as in the pilot episode. It was all perfect!

Tense or what! I thought there were so many times Fred referenced death that he was doomed. And when Joan said she would drive, I expected the car to explode before Strange got in. I wasn’t expecting that ending or whole plot really at all. My recording ended early though so have had to capture the last 10minutes on the recorder, but don’t think I missed anything as Morse was singing by then. I didn’t understand the gunshot at all. I did like the rather dismissive comment about the way the killer was using Latin when the episode was called Exeunt. 😂

I wondered if Morse was checking whether the gun was 'live'. I doubt he would keep it.

I just think he wanted to discharge the gun to get rid of the ammunition - or was it in fact a totally different gun and the suicide of Bright? If the latter then I think Endeavour might have mentioned it to Thursday. I also wondered whether the person who was handed the score by Endeavour at the end was in fact the author Russell Davies or was it a reference to Colin Dexter?

Colin Dexter, pretty sure of that. Looked like him from the side.
Never imagined the suicide of Bright. Endeavour had the gun. I guess he just fired the bullet to get rid of it.

I thought he fired the gun in sheer frustration and anger. He couldn't tie up the death of the boy from Blenheim Vale because Thursday killed him. He couldn't tell anyone about Lott because he was responsible for hit. He had lost his mentor, his workmates, and Joan forever and quite a bit of his ethics too.

I have re-watched the final segment this morning because I think the way it was written, directed and acted is some of the most memorable television ever. The final goodbye between Thursday and Morse and the shot of Thursday walking away diagonally off camera, making it seem as though he vanished into thin air was so moving and clever. For me though the final scene of first one pair of eyes and then the other in the rear view mirrors and then hearing the original Morse theme music was utterly brilliant and utterly heart wrenching. Having not been fully engaged by the first two episodes of this series I am so glad I stuck with it because the final episode transcended everything.

I watched the documentary just now, which was very interesting. Shaun speaking in his Liverpudlian accent and Sara Vickers (Joan) with her Scottish accent!
