I think she played a nurse in Casualty

Yes, she did, I think her name was Tess, but she had more hair in Casualty. The on screen messages did not say much more than what was read out, so you didn’t miss much by not seeing them.

The DI is played by Adjoa Andoh. I can see from IMDB she’s one of those actors who turns up in enough things to be a very familiar face - but not Tess in Casualty. That was Suzanne Packer.

SW stories fall broadly into two groups: serious ones, which are often quite depressing, like this week's, and those that jump the shark and are unintentionally funny, usually because of something Nicky gets involved in. I prefer the latter.
Ms Fox was clearly away making the Keeler Trial while this one was filmed, she was hardly in pt2. I seem to recall her being absent a great deal for other luvvie commitments during a previous series as well.

Gave up on that during part 2. too much padding/too slow. It's got 2 more Sundays to run I think. Anyway Vera's back from this Sunday!

I think it might be three more Sundays actually. I am getting into it more as it goes on but the biggest fault is the way it keeps skipping back and forth in time meaning I keep losing all sense of the chronology of the events.

I enjoyed this first story so much more than last season’s. There were lots of misdirections in motive and action , until we arrived at the real perpetrator. It was unusual, but without being preposterous.
I put it down to the direction and the pace - no panic or much running about, just solid forensic work, both medical and technological which joined the clues together. That is supposed to be the focus of the show, after all. OK, it was perhaps a bit too seamless, as far getting all the pieces to flow and avoiding faff about warrants etc, and probably frustrating to the real life services, but as a drama it was interesting. I even appreciated the diversity of the casting, without race or disability in the cast ever featuring as an aspect of the plot.
I’d like more of the same, but not holding too much hope.....

Well, she wasn't in the second half so it can't have been much.

Could they have included any more strands into one story? There was the body in the concrete pillar, the mysterious child, cryogenics, murder of the pillar victim's wife, abduction of a newborn baby and Clarissa's dilemma over her mother. It kept me enthralled!

And it wasn't all about Nikki!

I found it all pretty confusing. Adding the stolen child twist was just too much. Just for a moment, I also thought the sister was going to try to kill Clarissa.
