It wasn't bad. I'll watch the next one.
No, I'm sure it isn't dubbed. Most of the cast are British, and it seems a very anglicised version of Amsterdam, with even background conversations being in English.

I was aware of the original, but wasn’t living in the UK, so never got into it. I enjoyed this one except for the finger cutting (which I’m always squeamish about).
And they did at least sample the original theme, giving it a contemporary, darker update that I thought worked well.

No dubbing, this was a co-production,and English is widely spoken in Holland anyway.
It was a crime drama, could have been set anywhere,so nothing super special, but at least it is something new.

The boat at the end was beautiful.

Van der Valk was a huge favourite of OH's and mine in the 70s, both the stories AND the theme tune. I'm not great at remembering tunes from years ago but I do remember this one. I am SO looking forward to this tonight... hope it won't be too much of a disappointment! No, it wasn't! I loved it and think Marc Warren very ably fills Barry Foster's shoes. Amsterdam was the first place I ever visited abroad on a school trip so it holds a special place in my heart. My only complaint is the theme music....the original was in there somewhere, desperately trying to escape but never quite managing it. Let it out please!!!!

I watched after Primates(BBC1). Quite enjoyed it. Marc Warren is a good choice for the detective. Will continue to watch. Loved the dog. didn't catch his name, though having read through previous comments now know it's Trojan. I too hope they keep him in.

I enjoyed it too, can’t remember much about the original except the theme tune - I would only have been in my early teens.

Everyone in Amsterdam seemed to have very nice houses with canal views. If you have ever been to Ajax Stadium you will have seen that this is not the case - I bet they don't do that trip.

Renting is more usual than home ownership in the Netherlands, according to my SIL. So if the coffee shop female worked two jobs she probably could afford the rent on her nice apartment.

A pathetic attempt to use the very successful original theme tune - why did they have to? A few good jazz brass players could have done a far better exploring it and to keeping the beat. V de V was all right in this updated version and Amsterdam an interesting change from - say - Berlin, Oxford or Carrie having the abdabs in Kabul. I expect we will get round to more on the leather theme in the series.... then there's diamonds and drugs so plenty of scope - haven't they moved on a pace since the great tulip dramas that Dumas delighted in? Interesting people, the Dutch. For one thing they cook potatoes better than most - and do other things, of course.

Didn't they change the theme tune to Monk... and then had an episode where the murderer was an incensed fan whose favourite show had changed the theme tune?

Well I didnt know which twin was which throughout this. Which one was snogging the nun? The nun Zafira didnt recognise in the line up. Because I thought that was the twin who was at the wrong table (Zafira) or was it on another day when Ameena was there? And why did Ameena get an atheist tattoo? I couldnt really work out how estranged from her family Ameena was.

I forgot until 8.30 that this is a two hour programme so I missed the first half hour and thought that was why I had trouble keeping up with the switched identities .... but maybe not marion!
I think it was Ameena snogging the nun on a different occasion to the one when Zafira made her fatal errors. And wasn't it Zafira who was estranged and Ameena who was the father's favourite because he thought she was obedient? It was a bit convoluted!
