I too thought series 2 was better than series 1 but am disappointed in the Job backstory. Unless I missed something, his mother died and his junkie sister is living in the family flat. He doesn’t get on with her so doesn’t want to live in the flat. Big deal. Must admit I thought "is that all?" over that story thread. I have also enjoyed this series more than the previous one, mainly I think because I was no longer comparing it with the original. I've also managed to get over annoyance that they didn't keep the original theme music although it was still good to hear snatches of it during the closing credits. I hope there is another series to come.

I hope there is a new series too. I think the actor who plays VDV does a great job....even though he is not the original.

He doesn’t get on with her so doesn’t want to live in the flat. Big deal. To be honest, Van Der Valk himself looked underwhelmed by the true situation. I kept waiting for the girlfriend to be exposed as a nefarious villain plotting against him. Her actual revelation was potentially interesting, but as he seemed too shocked to question her, it didn’t go anywhere.

I'd forgotten about the girlfriend's bombshell. I can understand VdV being shocked but if that had happened to me my first reaction would have been to ask," Who to?". Does the fact that nothing ever came of what she said mean that it will resurface in another series or that his lack of reaction points to the fact that his heart wasn't really in taking the relationship further? I think the latter is more likely.

Where did Job go? Did I miss something. I know we got the explanation for his major trauma… something as ridiculous as his sister living in his flat!… but did he leave last time? I liked him, but not VDV bullying him. I like the new sergeants though and VDV seemed slightly more amiable. Did the theme music have a bit more of the original in it this time?

Did the theme music have a bit more of the original in it this time? I thought we did too and actually went to bed humming the original because I was so reminded of it. THE best television theme tune ever imo!

I thought there was more of the original tune in the music as well, the tune was picked out right at the beginning, whereas before there was just a taste of it at the end.
I don’t remember it being said Job was moving on, but it was a year ago and I just assumed he had moved on and I had forgotten. I do like the new two.

I kept getting interrupted whilst watching last night's episode so it was a bit disjointed for me. I managed to get the gist of most of the story but please could someone tell me exactly what was the position occupied by the killer? I thought " police protection handler" but then had doubts. I missed that character first coming into the story and couldn't work it out. Also was it ever explained how the killer got into the collector's house and managed to disable the security system? I'd been able to settle down by the time the killer was revealed but I seem to have zoned that bit out.

Yes she was a protection officer, so had access to all the intel to break into someone’s house Ah ,thank you. It's just that from the way they were talking it sounded to me as though she wasn't actually in the police any more. Lovely scenes of the beautiful, touristy bits of Amsterdam this week instead of grotty industrial estate type places that we often get.We saw Van der Valk's boat again too👍
