So Simone Biles gets bronze behind 2 Chinese. Is she recovered now then or still suffering from this twisty syndrome? Mind you I suppose you don’t twist on the beam do you and she did change her dismount. I personally preferred the routines of Elisabeth Black and Sunisa Lee who had a terrible wobble.

The twisties won't affect her as much on the beam. I'd never heard of them but I guess it's the same as the yips in other sports. I know Eric Bristow was forced to retire from darts because of the yips and there's been a few top golfers affected as well.
The Chinese have done quite well in the Finals. So I wonder what was going on in the Team and All-around competitions?

Just did a bit of reasearch and the twisties are specifically involved in aerial manouvres. You basically forget how to do them, including the landing. So forgetting how to land a piked front somersault with one and half twists would be pretty scary if you were halfway through it! Never mind the high risk of a serious injury.
So I do feel for Biles. It must be horrible to suddenly not be able to do even the simple moves that you've been doing since you were a small child. Especially in the biggest competition in the world with millions of people watching.

I thought it was a term she had made up! But then I googled it and saw it was the same sort of thing as the yips which I had heard of. The risk of landing on your neck and being paralysed is just horrendous, bad enough even if you haven’t got the twisties!

Yes Beth Tweddle said it is completely scary and you just don't know where you are then you start to panic. She said it takes a while in the soft practice area to overcome it and you can have terrible panic attacks.
Sounds awful. I'm bad enough up a ladder.

"Twisties" sounded like "zoomies" which cats suffer from, mostly in the evenings.
It is a shame that Simone has taken so much flak, mostly from male columnists, about her decision to step aside for some events. Would they rather she had a serious accident in a fall?

Yes, of course they would, because then they can say how women can't cut it at the highest levels (of anything). Heads they win, tails you lose. That's how it is now.

Jack Laugher has said he had something similar, complete loss of bearings when doing one of his dives in a competition which he has found very hard to shake off.

I enjoyed the coverage of the women’s distance swimming. Favourite comment of the Games so far… “well this isn’t supposed to be a contact sport but…”.
I’ve just happened on the skateboarding and was only going to watch our lass win bronze. But we had another entrant, a 14 year old called Bombette Martin. What a name! Excellent. Apparently her father was a boxer nicknamed Bomber and she speaks with a totally US accent as that is where she lives. Ditto Skye Brown apparently.

I think the skateboarding commentators are even worse than the two who do the swimming. Maybe I’m just showing my age though!

I think the skateboarding commentators are even worse than the two who do the swimming. Maybe I’m just showing my age though! The banter between the two swimming commentators Ade and Andy is excruciating at the best of times but over 10000 metres it was just too much and I had to abort.

I appreciate the excellent performance of young Skye but would like to have seen the routines of the girls (and they were girls - both in their early/mid teens!) who got silver and gold.

Enjoying the radio Olympic commentary, particularly for the wonderful Daly Thompson's contributions. Back in the day I did not have a single female workmate who did not fancy him! When the 3 people announced for Strictly were read out, the female presenter asked him "Have you ever been tempted Daly?" "Oh yes - but not by that" came the reply. His after-event interviews were always a joy.

We have two divers through to the women’s 10m final, 👍. One of them is the daughter of the lovely Fred Sirieix.

Well not content with the Danes taking out our male cyclist, our woman in the Keirin has been taken out by a Dutch woman! And what has happened to the pizza delivery bike? It’s become a bicycle courier. Nowhere near as much if a laugh. ☹️
