I've had a think and it could still be Hamish. He sees Jean come back upset and thinks she's been with Charley and goes to 'have a word' and ends up killing her. Although it could also be Jean in that case. Whoever it was is likely to have blood on their clothes but you can't see that in the dark. So Jean is back in as well. She could have been upset cos she'd just killed Charley. We don't know what time it was she came back, do we? Just that it was dark. Is this set in the winter or the summer? I think it's the summer and you don't get many hours of darkness that far north. So it must have been pretty late.

Is Tony running the drugs via the island? Or taking a cut? Did he do a runner from Glasgow with some money in order to buy the pub? Did Charley know that?
Has the guy from Glasgow arrived to find out who is running the drugs and cut them out. That was such a strange conversation in the pub where they were both denying they'd met before and then the Glasgow man just told the 'detectives' straight away that he knew him because he worked for him in his club as security. Was he leading those rookie 'detectives' down a path to take the heat off him?
Lots going on but only 4 men who could be the father of Charley's baby - if that is relevant:

I'm not sure he's running the drugs, as in 'in charge of operations' but a pub with a nice big cold cellar would be a useful place to stash them on delivery. Depending on the amount I guess. That conversation at the bar between Freddy and Tony, did that actually happen or was it an illustration of what Tony said had happened? Cos Freddy pretty much blew it out of the water!
It's no good, I'm going to have to watch them both again and make a new flow chart. My memory just can't keep up!

I'm going backwards and forwards on the baby thing...... I realised last night that Charley can't have known she was pregnant when she arrived on the island cos it was only two weeks old at the most. But Jean did look shocked to see the test so Charley can't have bought it in her shop. Unless she's not the only one that works there.... but then, there would have been gossip, wouldn't there? Hmmmm....unless Sonia or Ishbel gave it to Charley...... Anyway, my theory about the money is wrong. I'm not doing too well here, am I?

Been having a rewatch of Episode 1 and paying more attention to the smaller details mentioned by suspects. Concentrating on Jean and Hamish first.
Jean works alone in post office except on Fridays when Hamish sometimes helps out. Very busy on Fridays. But Hamish not around that Friday which was day of murder. Jean is not native to island. She came on a holiday 8.5 years ago (in the winter?), met Hamish and fell in love. So is Hamish native? Split up is very recent (?) as she said it wasn't official. Hamish is working on their house to fix it up. Does he have a job? Obvious attraction between Charley and Jean. Hit in off when C went in shop after 2 weeks on island. Did she have supplies in the Manse already? A long time to not go food shopping. They went for walks and had a fire on the beach. Does pressed flower in diary signify a date with Jean? Charley doesn't seem to have any recent technology. Photos taken with Polaroid camera and childs voice on tape in mini cassette. Odd in this day and age. Child on tape may actually be Charley as a small girl talking to her dad. She did say that she had loved the island when a girl. So she can't have met Jean before but could have known Hamish? Jean in Manse when Charley not there afternoon of Murder Day. What time? Late in the day but before the meeting? Jean said was busy in shop all day. Shocked to find pregnancy kit. Did Charley get that from doctor? Not from Jean's shop, definitely.
Note: Tony said he'd known Hamish all his life but he's from Glasgow. Can't believe a word out of that man's mouth!

Yes please.
We know there is only one shop on the island, as in a general dealer. There is also a garage with a little shop so there's probably a pharmacy too, and maybe a butcher or a baker. If it's big enough for a school there must be a doctors and district/ community nurse service. Even if the doctor is only there a couple of days a week there must be somewhere people can get their medicines.
I don't think she thought she was pregnant when she got there, that would be too soon to realise. Well for most people but maybe not in a fictional scenario. You can buy pregnancy tests that work before you miss a period nowadays but most don't.
She could have got pregnant before she got to the island but I think she probably didn't.
Tony is standing out for me, because she knew something about what he and Sonya did in Glasgow and potentially why they came to the island.
Of course they may not have done that much in Glasgow they may have genuinely decided to get away because they wanted a different life. He was working security for a crime boss, what was she doing? I know it can happen but would a teacher be likely to take up with a doorman/enforcer in a club.
Of course all of it could be a red herring, the shifty young lad could be the father and the murderer.

I think Tony is from the island and he knew Charley from the island. She knew he was there and contacted him for somewhere to stay. Maybe to lie low, anyway he let her stay at the manse and didn't tell Sonya.
As you say Miranda she was there 2 weeks before she needed new supplies. Did she bring food etc in the camper van? Nothing would keep fresh that long, bread, milk etc. So was Tony bringing her supplies.
Was she keeping out of sight deliberately but then felt safe after nobody came looking after a couple of weeks.

I've been googling the real island. It's called Gigha and it's part of the district of Kintyre. There's 163 living on it and has one small town/large village where most of them live. The Manse is just outside, is a Georgian building and is Grade II listed. Worth about £250k at present prices.

In reference to the small bit I've quoted above, yes, I thought it was Charly as a young girl on the tape.

Loads of good points in Beverley's posts, too. With regards to fresh bread/milk, she could've always frozen some when she got there and defrosted it as and when she needed to (assuming the Manse had a freezer).

The little girl on the tape. The cannabis lupin. And there's another one I can't think of.

Starting my flowchart! Brilliant! I'm really enjoying everyone chipping in and coming up with different angles. It seemed relatively simple to start with but it's getting more complicated now.
