Clearly none of the new characters will be a straight white male. I can’t see why they don’t try to replace Clarissa with 3or 4 characters. This would be consistent with the reality of forensic scientists specialising in a limited range of areas, e.g. biological materials, paper, fabrics, chemicals, firearms, IT etc. Well, as far as theLyle is consistent with reality, which isn’t very. There is such a weird vibe in the place from seeing no other staff. I’d read the coverage about Clarissa before I managed to watch the last 2 episodes, but knew nothing about Thomas.

So there are only two people working at the Institute now? The place looked like the Marie Celeste!

Looks like it. You would have though they would have got a few random lab technicians around.

If it was filmed during Covid, they probably cut back on too many people wandering around.
Just a thought.

If it was filmed during Covid, they probably cut back on too many people wandering around. Just a thought. That theory didn't apply to the prison scenes especially the riot! I didn't understand the ending of this story. We suddenly jumped from Nikki being trapped in a basement with an injured psychopath during a prison riot to her giving a lecture to students with no explanation of how all the drama ended. Was the montage (can't think of another word to describe it) as Nikki was doing a kind of voice-over meant to represent what actually happened? Talk about fizzling out!

The montage included the baddie doctor in a prison van, bruised and battered, and the young man psychopath who started it all in what was obviously another prison cell, and Nikki safe and well, giving a lecture, so yes it was a way of quickly ending the story so far as I could see. Maybe they ran out of shooting time?

I havent finished watching but..... The Lyell contains a mortuary and a forensics lab and needs to maintain uncorrupted evidence so that findings can be presented in court. So how is it OK for the newbie to bring his toddler into the lab and for Cara to come charging in where Jack was working on physical evidence? And how could she get in? Dont they have any security?

There was a scene in yesterday's episode where Nikki ticked off the new boy for doing the police's job after they'd walked in on him interviewing a suspect! I dont know how she did it with a straight face... it almost had me on the floor in convulsions. Pots and kettles come to mind.

Is that the end of the new boy then, with his falsified CV? I shall be watching part 2 later…
